£3.6 MILLION HLF ‗PARKS FOR PEOPLE‘ GROSVENOR PARK RESTORATION<br />

PROJECT - UPDATE<br />

Enabling works in Grosvenor Park (Chester) are nearing completion, these<br />

included demolition of the toilet block and play area, installation of services<br />

and additional survey work, including significant Archaeology. Tree removal<br />

and vegetation clearance has also been completed in preparation for the<br />

wider park landscaping. The main contractor Mansell Construction UK will be<br />

occupying the site from 8 April 2013 with the works compound being situated<br />

in the central area of the park. Completion of the project which is funded<br />

through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is still expected by late Spring 2014.<br />

Works will be completed in a sequence of 6 Zones through the park (see<br />

attached) starting with Zone 1 at the beginning of April which includes pond<br />

restoration, installation of the new play area, steps and path resurfacing.<br />

Quickly followed by Zone 2 in May which includes the Restoration of the<br />

Grade II listed Lodge and construction of the new Belvedere Training<br />

Building. To avoid disruption works will continue to be programmed around<br />

all the major public events in the city, such as the Outdoor Theatre, however<br />

areas of the park may be closed off at various times of the year to facilitate<br />

works.<br />
