ABOUT OACETT
Founded in 1957, OACETT is the professional
association that promotes the interests of engineering
and applied science technicians and technologists to
industry, educational institutions, the government
and with the public.
We are Ontario’s independent certifying body for
engineering and applied science technicians and
technologists. Our members hold one of the following
designations:

TO BEGIN YOUR JOURNEY...
Visit the “Become a Member” section of the OACETT
website to find out exactly what is required for you to
gain an OACETT designation. Different rules apply for
different certifications and each case is handled on an
individual basis.
Make sure to submit all relevant documents to
OACETT, including your academic transcripts,
professional development courses, work experience,
volunteer work, apprenticeships and co-op
placements.
Every piece of information will help our registration
staff determine the steps you are required to take to
reach your goal of becoming certified with OACETT.
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
Professional Practice Exam (PPE)
The PPE is a mandatory certification requirement for
all members to ensure they’re aware of their legal and
ethical responsibilities to the public, their employer
and themselves.
It is a multiple-choice, invigilated exam consisting
of three parts: Canadian Civil Law, Ethics, and the
Practice of engineering and applied science
technology in Ontario. To pass the exam, you must
achieve a satisfactory result in each of the three parts.
If you are unsuccessful in any section(s), you will need
to rewrite that section(s).
The exam is usually held four times each year, in
February, May, September and November. When you
register and pay for the exam, you will be sent all the
required study materials including: PPE study manual,
OACETT Act and By-Law, IETO Terms of Reference,
Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct.
Study seminars are also available for those who need
assistance preparing for the exam. For further

TECHNOLOGY REPORT (C.E.T. APPLICANTS ONLY)
The Technology Report (TR) is a mandatory
requirement for all members seeking certification as a
Certified Engineering Technologist. (Graduates from
nationally accredited programs are exempt.)
You will be asked to submit a proposal which will
be reviewed by the Admissions Committee for its
suitability. Upon approval, you will be asked to
prepare your Technology Report and submit the final
work for review.
Once your Technology Report is approved—and if
you have completed your two-year work experience
and PPE—you will be granted the C.E.T. certification.

learning more effective technology report writing
techniques. TR guidelines and seminar dates and
