FACULTY INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL GRANT PROGRAM
The Office of International Studies and Programs, in collaboration with the Office of the
Assistant Provost for Honors and International Education, has established an international
travel grant program in the amount of $10,000 for the academic year 2012/13.
Purpose
The Faculty International Travel Grant (FITG) seeks to enhance the internationalization
efforts of Illinois State University. FITG will seek to support initiatives/activities that
contribute to the mission of the Office of International Studies and Programs and that are
consistent with the international teaching, research, and outreach goals of the university.
Categories of Supported Initiatives/Activities
A. Individual or collaborative scholarly research of an international character or in
collaboration with researchers/faculty outside of the United States. Special
consideration will be given to those projects whose results would be integrated in or
used to develop of a course or courses with an international focus.
B. Invited or accepted presentation at an international conference, symposia, or short
lectures/workshop that would enhance the faculty member’s ability to develop and
teach an identified course or courses with an international perspective. Application
must include a copy of the presentation invitation/acceptance, and a description of
course objectives and a description of how an international focus would be
integrated into current or new course activities.
C. Travel costs associated with having an additional faculty member join an existing
faculty-led student trip for the purpose of maintaining a successful international
program by increasing the number of faculty able to lead that program if/when
needed.
Submission – Grant proposals are due March 1, 2013. Send an original and two copies
Attn: Dr. Momar Ndiaye, Director
Notification – Notification of awards will be sent by April 1, 2013.
Completion of activity should occur within 1 academic year of award. An extension
may be granted with appropriate rationale. For example, some departments/schools
have faculty-led trips that occur every other year. It is possible that an applicant for a
Category C award delay their award to a subsequent academic year for this reason,
however, this must be made clear in the original application.
Final report - A brief summary of project outcomes (1-2 pages) is due to the Director
of the Office of International Studies and Programs within 30 days of completion of
the project for all grant awardees.
Selection Process

A committee made up of members of the OISP office and International Studies
Advisory Council will review applications and make recommendations for awards.
Committee members will not judge awards from their own department/school. Final
judgments will be made based on perceived overall project quality and contribution
to the international mission and goals of Illinois State University.
