HIROSE DF59 SERIES MULTI-FUNCTIONAL
CONNECTOR SYSTEM FOR LED APPLICATIONS
SIMI VALLEY, CA –May 24, 2011—Hirose, a leader in the development of connector solutions,
has developed a 2 mm pitch, multi-functional connector system that provides Wire-to-Board,
Board-to-Board Bridge and Short-Circuit Pin sockets in a single connector design. Designated the
DF59 Series, this connector is ideal for the LED market, as well as for any application that requires
a small connector, such as battery connections, small DC motor drives and power supplies.
“The DF59 offers system designers ultimate flexibility,” said Rick van Weezel, Vice President of
Sales and Marketing for Hirose Electric USA. “The beauty of the system is that whichever plug is
used, it mates with the same receptacle. This allows for a reduction in the number of components
needed and simplified termination options.”
The DF59 uses Hirose’s unique “swing lock,” which utilizes positive and friction locks, giving
Wire-to-Board type connections a stronger cable pull force resistance. The cable end of the plug is
mated at a slight angle to start, then is pivoted down to complete mating with an audible tactile click.
The Board-to-Board Bridge connector also provides a stress-free contact with 0.5 mm of “float”
tolerance in the X, Y and Z directions for greater flexibility.

With a low mated height of 2.48 mm and overall size of 8.15 x 9.2 mm this ideal, compact size
helps to save space and prevents the appearance of shadows from the connectors.
DF59 has a 2 mm pitch and is available in 2, 3 and 4 positions. It has a high current capacity of 3
Amps (with AWG 22 cable) and a high contact lance strength for wire-to-board type connections. It
is also RoHS-compliant.
