Power-assisted rack and pinion steering,
front MacPherson struts, rear multilink
suspension, and front and rear stabilizer
bars put the road under your direct
control. The optional T5 Sport
Suspension recalibrates the chassis
components with thicker front and rear
stabilizer bars and shock absorbers
reset for performance damping. This
suspension set-up, when matched with
the optional 17-inch alloy wheels
and 45 series tires, helps the S60 T5
redefine its performance class with a
lesson in handling and acceleration
that will be noted in automotive circles
around the world.
When the weather turns wet, the
S60’s optional traction control systems
can afford the driver greater control
in adverse conditions. Stability Traction
Control (STC) will detect a slipping
wheel and instantly employ the
computerized ABS braking system
to slow the spinning wheel until it
regains traction. Dynamic Stability
Traction Control (DSTC) enhances
the STC function by electronically
incorporating the STC spinning wheel
data with driver steering input and
the course of the vehicle. It then gently
activates the brakes at an individual
wheel as needed to help keep you on
your intended course. Both systems
operate in milliseconds before you are
even aware of the situation.
A. Volvo’s dynamic 5-cylinder double
overhead camshaft engines are the heart
of S60 performance. Rated from 168 to
247 hp, they all provide excellent response
and spirited torque.
B. The optional Geartronic 5-speed
automatic transmission can be shifted
manually as well as automatically, giving
you the freedom to enjoy the road as
you see fit. It is available as an option on
turbocharged engines.
