Cabins
Design and construction. The intelligently designed
structure of the New Atego and Axor cabins provides a
solid base for a long and economical life whilst taking into
account the safety aspects that protect the occupants.
The cabins are characterised by high structural strength
and rigidity which is based on a self supportingrobotically
welded steel structure in lightweight design
(complying with the requirements of ECE- R29). Extensive
corrosion protection is incorporated by various means
including cathodic dip priming, hydro filler and body
cavity protection to ensure excellent resistance.
Cabins tilt to 55° for the Atego and 67° for
the Axor to enable optimal service access
using the manual cab tilt pump.
Access. Getting in and out of the cabin is simple.
Cascading anti-slip steps are illuminated and handrails
are provided on both sides of the doors. The pull out door
handles are easy to reach and doors open to a 95° angle.
Comfort. The New Atego and Axor cabins are designed
with the driver in mind and offer the best possible
conditions for a relaxed and safe driving environment.
High quality materials, first class workmanship and
a practically oriented design are combined to produce
a workplace where the driver feels at home.
The driver’s seat is air suspended with a head restraint
and armrests. It is extensively adjustable and provides
ideal support and positioning for strain relief.
The optional comfort passenger seat or centre seat
with seatbelt provides the space for a driver and
two passengers while still maintaining the comfort
you would expect from a Mercedes-Benz.
An optional seat/bunk combination is available
to provide for the various tasks associated with
transport today. The upper/lower bunk combination
in the cabin can be folded away to provide a
bench seat for up to four extra passengers.
All of the materials used in the cabins have been
specially selected to deliver an extremely high
quality look and feel throughout the vehicles life.
Storage. Storage areas are both practical and accessible.
For smaller items there are deep pockets in each door,
recesses on the facia and above the windscreen and
dual drink holders for the driver and passenger.
Interior lighting. Interior lighting is supplied by fully
dimming lamps positioned around the cabin. These can be
controlled by the door opening and will automatically turn
off once moving. The Atego also has reading lamps.
Instruments. The New Atego and Axor are equipped as
standard with the multifunction steering wheel with
integrated control functions for on board computer, radio
and telephone. The anti glare instrument cluster with
graphic display and eco-meter are the driver’s information
centre and provide a modern feel to the interior. Operating
system and functional information are shown as symbols
or in text form in the graphic display. The fuel gauge
includes an integrated Adblue tank level indicator.
An automatic departure check is activated when the key is
turned to the driving position.
The following functions are checked and shown in the
display:
• Oil Level
• Air filter condition
• Coolant level • Condensation water level
• Brake lining condition • Lamp status
• Washer fluid level
Protection and finish. Cabins are painted in Arctic white
as standard and can be ordered in a range of solid or
metallic colours. Please see your local Mercedes-Benz
dealer for full details.
Service access. Lifting the front grill gives access to top
up the following fluids:
• Clutch
• Screen wash
• Coolant
• Engine oil
All fluids can be monitored through the Telligent ®
Maintenance System.
Other refinements
• Two electrically adjustable rear view mirrors with
switched heating combined with long-range mirrors on
both sides ensure all round visibility.
• Two full width sun visor’s at the front on all cabins and
a pull down window blind on the driver’s side on long
cabins are fitted as standard.
• Externally all round tinted glass and an impressive sun
visor are also standard.
• Three point integrated seatbelt
• Dash mounted 12 volt socket
• Electric windows for driver and passenger-operated
from door panel.
