The School of the Built Environment (SOBE) is a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence for Built Environment
study and research. We offer a comprehensive range of world class, management focused and, professionally accredited postgraduate
programmes, developed in partnership with the Built Environment industries and the Professional Bodies. Our aim is to develop ever
more highly skilled and innovative managers, able to take on the challenges of the future. Most programmes have intakes twice a year
in January and September.
Some of our programmes are designed to equip recent or aspiring entrants to the Built Environment sector with key skills. Other
programmes offer existing practitioners the opportunity of further highly advanced professional development. All reflect the very latest
thinking and practice in their sectors and benefit from our widely acclaimed research work. Where eligible our full MSc programmes
are accredited by the relevant professional bodies - students successfully completing the full masters programme are
granted exemption from academic examination requirements for entry to the profession.
We offer a variety of study modes to suit individual circumstances including the opportunity to combine study, with your career, by
studying part-time on campus or via online distance learning. In our well established internet enabled interactive learning environment
students work through downloaded programme material at their own pace, access the University’s library resources, interact with tutors
and fellow students, submit coursework, and check assessment results. A demonstration video of this system can be viewed on

Programmes Entry Requirements
Applications for most programmes will normally be accepted from
candidates who have:
n A minimum of a second class undergraduate honours degree in a
relevant discipline; Or
n A minimum of a second class undergraduate honours degree in a non
cognate discipline and significant relevant work experience; Or
n A recognised appropriate professional qualification; Or
n Alternative significant and relevant experience, and/or qualifications.
(Such candidates will be individually assessed for entry).
Additional specific programme entry requirements
Digital Architectural Design Programme
n
Quantity Surveying (M&E) Programme
n Applicants should normally posess a cognate degree and M&E QS
experience; Or
n A non cognate degree and significant M&E QS experience
Construction Law and Practice Programme
n LLM award only: Applicants must possess a minimum of a second class
undergraduate qualifying law degree; Or
n
Applicants should additionally possess basic CAD skills and are
required to submit a portfolio of design work. (see page 3).
A recognised appropriate professional legal qualification.

Application
Application may be made online from our web site. You may apply at any
time, however, we strongly encourage you to apply not less than 2
months prior to your intended start date. If you will complete your
bachelor’s degree in the next 12 months, you can reserve your place. We
will confirm your place when you send us your final degree results.
English Language Requirements
If your undergraduate degree was not taught in English, you must
provide evidence of your English language ability. You will need a
minimum of IELTS 6, or an equivalent qualification, such as TOEFL. If your
current English language qualification is below this level, you may be able
to take one of the many pre-sessional English programmes in our School
