<strong>The</strong> members of the <strong>David</strong> <strong>Guidi</strong> <strong>Quartet</strong><br />

have performed across the globe and as a group,<br />

they program original compositions along with<br />

a wide array of arrangements of jazz standards.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y have featured several prominent<br />

musicians including Jason Marsalis and Marcus<br />

Roberts and seek to coordinate venues as a<br />

quartet in addition to upcoming collaborations<br />

with musicians such as Ron Westray, Marcus<br />

Printup and Vincent Gardner.<br />

<strong>The</strong> leader of the quartet, <strong>David</strong> <strong>Guidi</strong>, is<br />

an award-winning composer and performing<br />

musician who is consistently recognized as a<br />

rising jazz artist. He has been referred to as<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Quartet</strong>’s performances include the<br />

blues and swing aspect of jazz music along with<br />

numerous other styles that are synonymous<br />

with the most respected and recognized groups<br />

performing today. <strong>The</strong>y have performed<br />

extensively in the southeast and continue to<br />

welcome other national and international<br />

venues.<br />

Artist Profiles:<br />

<strong>David</strong> <strong>Guidi</strong>, Saxophone<br />

Currently based out of Austin, TX,<br />

<strong>David</strong>’s recent and past activities include<br />

working on the faculty at the University of<br />

Texas at Austin as well as performing with and<br />

composing for various ensembles. A past<br />

student of renowned saxophonist Bunky Green,<br />

he was recognized as an emerging talent in<br />

2001 and was one of only twenty-three artists<br />

nationwide invited to participate in a weeklong<br />

residency program at <strong>The</strong> Steans Institute<br />

in Chicago. While there, he had the<br />

opportunity to work under the tutelage of<br />

<strong>David</strong> Baker, Nathan Davis, James Moody,<br />

Danilo Perez, Rufus Reid, and alongside many<br />

of today’s most recognized young artists.<br />

He has performed extensively across the<br />

country and around the world at several major<br />

European jazz festivals. His compositions have<br />

received widespread acclaim, obtaining<br />

recognition in several major competitions<br />

including the 2005 ASCAP Young Jazz<br />

Composer Composition Awards, which he won<br />

for his big-band chart entitled Hike!!!. His<br />

large jazz ensemble compositions are widely<br />

available through Walrus Music Publications.<br />

<strong>David</strong> and his quartet recently received an<br />

invitation to perform at Lincoln Center as<br />

representatives of the ASCAP Foundation in a<br />

concert series featuring award-winning composers.<br />

In addition to regular performances with his quartet,<br />

he has performed with the most revered artists in<br />

jazz including Dave Brubeck, Kenny Garrett, Terry<br />

Gibbs, Dave Holland, Slide Hampton, Branford<br />

Marsalis, Bob Mintzer, Chris Potter, Tito Puente, and<br />

Clark Terry among others.

<strong>David</strong> Potter is quickly becoming known<br />

as a formidable musician across the country.<br />

He has been featured in the piano trios of<br />

Marcus Roberts and Ellis Marsalis and is a<br />

member of the Jason Marsalis Vibes <strong>Quartet</strong>.<br />

He has also performed with numerous other<br />

well known jazz artists including Kevin Bales,<br />

Fred Wesley, Martin Bejarano, Scotty<br />

Barnhart, Vincent Gardner, Victor Goines,<br />

Wycliffe Gordon, Russell Gunn, Marcus<br />

Printup, Greg Tardy, and Roland Guerin<br />

among others.<br />

After graduating from Florida State<br />

University in 2005, he was chosen from a<br />

national pool of applicants to be a member of<br />

the Louis Armstrong Quintet at the University<br />

of New Orleans. Unfortunately, the tragedy of<br />

hurricane Katrina temporarily ended his hopes<br />

for a career in Louisiana. In the spring of 2006,<br />

he began to re-audition for graduate schools<br />

and was awarded a full scholarship to the<br />

prestigious Juilliard Jazz Program in New York<br />

City. After several days of intense meditation,<br />

he declined the offer and returned to Florida<br />

State University to work and collaborate with<br />

his mentor Marcus Roberts.<br />

<strong>David</strong> has enjoyed performing at some of<br />

the world’s most celebrated jazz venues,<br />

including Lincoln Center in New York, the<br />

North Seas Jazz Festival in Holland, the 2005<br />

International Association of Jazz Educators<br />

Convention in Long Beach, CA, the Fat Cat in<br />

New York, Sweet Lorraine's in New Orleans,<br />

Churchill Grounds in Atlanta, GA, and <strong>The</strong><br />

Jazz Corner in Hilton Head, SC.<br />

Will Goble, Bass<br />

Jazz bassist Will Goble stays active<br />

performing across the southeastern United<br />

States. He has appeared as a sideman with<br />

many notable artists, including Marcus<br />

Roberts, Vincent Gardner, Jason Marsalis,<br />

Leon Anderson, Kevin Bales, Barry Greene,<br />

Scotty Barnhart, Philip Harper, Doug Carn,<br />

Stephen Riley, and Inga Swearingen among<br />

others. Recent performances include Hampton<br />

University’s annual jazz series as a member of<br />

the Marcus Roberts <strong>Quartet</strong>.<br />

Having received his bachelors in jazz<br />

performance from Florida State University in<br />

Tallahassee, Florida, he returned the fall of<br />

2006 on staff as a graduate teaching assistant<br />

in the jazz studies program. Will is currently<br />

assisting Marcus Roberts in developing<br />

educational curricula for new college students<br />

interested in studying jazz. He is also fortunate<br />

to have studied with renowned bassist Rodney<br />

Jordan in addition to Roberts. FSU has<br />

provided him the opportunity to perform and<br />

connect with many established artists,<br />

including Carl Allen, Deborah Brown, Vincent<br />

Gardener, Marcus Printup and Gregory Tardy.<br />

As an undergraduate student, Will co-led<br />

an FSU small-jazz ensemble that performed at<br />

the 2005 International Association of Jazz<br />

Educators annual conference in Long Beach,<br />

CA, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola in New York City,<br />

and the 2005 North Sea Jazz Festival in Den<br />

Haag, Holland. This ensemble was the first<br />

college group ever invited to perform at Dizzy’s<br />

and the first FSU group to play at the IAJE<br />

conference in over ten years.


Austin Johnson, Piano<br />

Austin Johnson is a twenty-four year old<br />

jazz pianist who began his musical training at<br />

age ten. Austin developed a strong interest in<br />

music during his high school years and at<br />

seventeen, began his formal studies with the<br />

highly regarded jazz pianist and educator, Ed<br />

Paolantonio. After graduating high school, he<br />

developed his jazz piano skills by performing<br />

throughout North Carolina as a freelance<br />

musician and as a member of groups such as<br />

the Steve Hobbs <strong>Quartet</strong>, <strong>The</strong> Mitch Butler<br />

Trio, and the North Carolina Central<br />

University Jazz Ensemble.<br />

During his time in North Carolina, he had the opportunity to study and perform with<br />

musicians such as Paul Tardif, Ira Wiggins, Robert Trowers, Carroll Dashiell, <strong>The</strong> Branford<br />

Marsalis <strong>Quartet</strong>, Stephen Riley, Fred Wesley, Terrell Stafford, Ed Thigpen, Carl Allen, Lenora<br />

Helm, and the Winard Harper Group. He currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida where he was<br />

awarded a scholarship to study jazz performance at Florida State University. At FSU, he has had<br />

the opportunity to work with musicians such as Marcus Roberts and the Marcus Roberts Trio,<br />

Leon Anderson, Scotty Barnhart, and Bill Peterson.<br />
