Academic Advisement and Counseling help students connect their<br />

educational and career goals and advisement is mandatory <strong>for</strong> students with less<br />

than 30 credits. Academic advisors help students review their degree<br />

requirements and decide on courses <strong>for</strong> the next semester. However, the<br />

ultimate responsibility <strong>for</strong> decision-making rests with the student. Useful materials<br />

include next semester’s schedule of classes, an advisement schedule <strong>for</strong> majors<br />

(see department office), an advisement <strong>for</strong>m, and use of DegreeWorks<br />

(https://degreeworks.laguardia.edu/prod/) – a self-advisement tool to track<br />

progress towards completing degree requirements and planning future<br />

registrations. You will need your student ID number (9-digits) and Password (6-<br />

digit PIN) to log into this program and you should also refer to the <strong>College</strong><br />

Catalog to understand degree requirements. You may reach the Counseling<br />

<strong>Veteran</strong> <strong>Services</strong> Office (C 371) offers FREE 6-week evening <strong>College</strong> Prep and<br />

GED classes <strong>for</strong> military veterans through a federally funded <strong>Veteran</strong>s Upward<br />

Bound grant. The Office assists veterans with GI educational benefits counseling,<br />

college admissions, retention, and referral services. The Office can be reached at<br />

Credit <strong>for</strong> Prior Learning: <strong>Veteran</strong>s are entitled from 6 to 16 college credits<br />

based on the length of active duty, military and employment training and life<br />

Through the <strong>College</strong>-Level Examination Program (CLEP), you may earn from<br />

3 to 12 college credits toward a college degree <strong>for</strong> each CLEP exam taken,<br />

depending on the exam subject and the policy of the college or university.<br />

The Student <strong>Veteran</strong>s Club is <strong>for</strong> all veteran students and membership is also<br />

open to veterans’ dependents and supporters. Meetings are held on<br />
