NOVA Homecoming Festivities and Fun NOVASIGHTINGS Phi Theta Kappa Vice President of Service Nessie Vanta, Counselor for Student Activities Jessie Zahorian (AN) and Student Government Association Senator Jane Kim at the homecoming dance. Approximately 180 students attended the homecoming dance which took place on February 13 in the Cultural Center Forum. NOVA’s basketball team battled Tidewater Community College on February 15 as part of the homecoming festivities. Women lost 47-46 and the men won 87-73. NOVA Idol semi-finalist Priscilla Galindo and Eliana Lodovichetti participated by singing during the basketball games. Be sure to watch the NOVA Idol finals on March 20 at the Schlesinger Center at 7:00 p.m. 6
UP&COMING VCCS Faculty and Administrators Leadership Academy Present NOVA is fortunate to have outstanding leaders attend the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Faculty and Administrators Leadership Academy. They have graciously agreed to share their insights with colleagues in a panel discussion on March 6 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the CE Forum at the Annandale Campus. Please share this invitation with all of our NOVA faculty (teaching, professional and administrative). Handling Difficult Conversations: Keys to Stopping Bad Behavior Program On March 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Handling Difficult Conversations: Keys to Stopping Bad Behavior program will be offered on the Annandale Campus in the CT Building, room 335. There will be a 60-minute audio conference followed by Q & A with Marleen McCabe, associate director for employee relations. Alexandria Campus Anthem Wellness Screening Event There will be free screenings at the Alexandria Campus Anthem Wellness Screening event. This will be available to all faculty and staff (classified and P-14s) on March 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Bisdorf Building room 158. Spouses and dependents of faculty and classified staff only, that live in the employee’s household, are also invited. You do not have to be enrolled with Anthem insurance to participate; however, you must register to attend. Your appointment time will be confirmed via e-mail. Register today! NOVA Community Chorus and Others Perform Duruflé Requiem Mark Whitmire (AL) will conduct two performances of the “Duruflé Requiem,” one of the most magical, transcendent pieces in the choral repertoire. The performances feature the Washington Philharmonic Orchestra and the NOVA Community Chorus, with the soloists mezzosoprano Grace Gori and baritone Aurelius Gori. No tickets are required. Performances will be March 29 at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany located at 1317 G Street N.W., Washington, District of Columbia and April 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Bishop Ireton High School at 201 Cambridge Road, Alexandria, Virginia.
