Lieutenant sets pace
at Race
for Life
Lieutenant Kirsty Topham is a member of
Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force and
has helped out at her local Cancer Research
Race for Life since it started six years ago.
Held at Alexandra Park in Oldham, this year
was to be no different for the Lieutenant,
until she was diagnosed with breast cancer
at the age of 27.
In between undergoing chemotherapy
treatment sessions, the ACF instructor
received a call from Jane Leggett, the North
West Race for Life event organiser, who
kindly asked her to be this years’ guest of
honour. Kirsty accepted and proudly carried
out the official countdown to the race start.

Kirsty herself was determined to
complete the 5k course and joined 2,600
other women in the grey skies and rain whilst
a group of GM ACF cadets handed out water,
medals and goodie bags.
Along with help from her mum and sister,
Kim, Kirsty made it round the course and
single-handedly raised a massive £2,143.41
for the worthwhile charity.
