Point and Shoot
Here's the long and
short of it—I am
planning on heading
south to visit my folks
and wanted a reliable
easy-to-use camera. I was looking for an
easy way to capture my folk’s spirit for I was
with them less and less. The Jewish guilt
was building up. I was looking for a way to
bring them home in a pictorial way. So I
went to the good old reputable camera shop
in NJ to find a camera. I wanted something
that was fast, did well in low light, offered
high resolution, had the capabilities of
video and audio recording and most importantly,
was small enough to carry around
easily in order to capture that quick and
funny shot. I wanted a sense of freedom.
Ididnot buy a traditional Point and Shoot
camera so I went with—the iPhone.
Needless to say, it was a great choice. The
camera on the phone is amazing. I can
zoom. I have the option to save in High
Resolution; the phone does a brilliant job
with light metering. It does great in low
light and if you want, there is a flash, however,
it does a brilliant job without a flash.
Also, with the new iPhone 5 (or 4s and software
upgrade to iOS6), camera software lets
you produce panoramic pictures that are so
much fun. Imagine getting a 360 degree
view of a party in one shot! Also with the
new mac operating system, there is also
Photostream that sends the pictures back to
the computer, so you don’t have to worry
about loosing your pictures even if you
loose your phone. Pretty sweet!
Once you have your photos on the phone
there are numerous ways to edit if you
choose to. The phone itself has decent
photo editing capabilities (crop, enhance,
take red out of eyes) and if you want more,
there are quite a few good photo apps for
editing and special effects such as Instagram,
Hipstamatic, Camera+ and Snapseed, to
name a few.
The iPhone camera has done a terrific job of
capturing all different moments, sports,
portraits of parents and friends, awesome
scenes and beautiful flowers to name a few.
And what’s more, I can use it to call my
parents. I feel less guilty already! ✫
