Purpose of this Report<br />

The purpose of this external evaluation and review report is to provide a public statement<br />

about the Tertiary Education Organisation’s (TEO) educational performance and<br />

capability in self-assessment. It forms part of the accountability process required by<br />

Government to inform investors, the public, students, prospective students, communities,<br />

employers, and other interested parties. It is also intended to be used by the TEO itself for<br />

quality improvement purposes.<br />

<strong>Tamaki</strong> <strong>Ki</strong> <strong>Raro</strong> Trust (the Trust) is a community-based organisation which delivers health,<br />

social, and education services to the wider Mangere community. A trust board governs the<br />

training arm of the Trust, <strong>Tamaki</strong> <strong>Ki</strong> <strong>Raro</strong> <strong>Training</strong> (<strong>Tamaki</strong>). The Trust provides services<br />

which also support the training arm and include a programme, Mangere Makes a Difference<br />

(MMAD), which involves a team of eight youth workers and an events coordinator<br />

facilitating wider community events which strengthen community partnerships between the<br />

police, schools, families, and service agencies. This team also supports the tutors by<br />

providing recreational support for learners and specific educational services such as drug<br />

and alcohol workshops. The Trust also employs eight social workers who counsel in five<br />

secondary schools in the area and are available to the training arm. The Trust’s clinical<br />

psychologist is also available to the learners.<br />

<strong>Tamaki</strong>’s location affords the students access to medical services and Kohanga Reo care<br />

facilities, and contact with local Kaumatua and Kuia through the Te Puea Marae<br />

Kaumatua/Kuia units. <strong>Tamaki</strong>’s students are actively involved in the upkeep and<br />

maintenance of the Te Puea Kaumatua/Kuia District Health Board Community garden.<br />

<strong>Tamaki</strong>’s additional pastoral care support includes a full-time cook and cleaner, specifically<br />

employed to provide healthy lunches for the students, regular cleaning of <strong>Tamaki</strong>’s<br />

common areas, and general support to training staff which includes taking students for<br />

appointments, assisting on field trips, and other assistance as required.<br />

<strong>Tamaki</strong> delivers Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) funded, 48-week foundation<br />

learning courses to adult and youth learners. Successful completion of the courses can lead<br />

to:<br />
