requirements. Fountain heights between 30 and 140 cm 

and the speed can be adjusted via remote control through

High above: Fountain pumps 

Especially high – this is the motto for the 

fountain pumps. A feature that differentiates 

them from filter and watercourse pumps. From 

the smallest indoor fountain to the fountain in 

the palace garden, all fountain pumps share this 

feature. The remote control models with which 

power and fountain height can be controlled at 

distances of up to 80 metres are special attractions. 

Thus you can reduce the brisk splashing, if for 

example in deference to the tranquility of the 

evening. We have summarised the most important 

information for you in an easy to understand table 

on pages 22/23. You can find the right pump for 

your favourite fountain at glance. 

Fountain attachments are responsible,

effect. For smaller planter boxes you 

need a compact but powerful pump. 

Bubbling stones 

Natural and charming these are the 

effects of bubbling stones. Moss and lichens 

can grow on rough stone, which enhances 

the natural appearance. Here you also 

require a compact but powerful pump. 

Fountains 

Imposing and richly varied are 

fountains with one or more water jets. For 

greater heights and forceful spouting you 

require pumps with greater power.

Movement is good for everyone: Fountains 

Fine glittering jets that appear to dance above 

the water surface are a beautiful enhancement 

for pond or pool, and not just for visual 

reasons. Water must always be in motion so 

that sufficient oxygen gets into the pond and 

the biological balance remains intact. The selfcleaning 

processes that maintain water quality 

only function if there is movement. Fish and 

small life forms find the optimal conditions for 

a healthy life. However a fountain should only 

ascend to a height that does not prevent the 

water from landing back in the pond. You want 

to be able to use the garden area all around the 

pond even if there is a stronger wind. Manually 

adjustable or electronically adjustable fountain 

pumps are practical and very convenient.

Water is the element of life. But only in the 

right combination with oxygen does it give 

man his health, and animals and plants a habitat. 

Consequently watercourses are an effective enhancement 

of your garden pond, but not for visual 

reasons alone; while the water flows it is being 

enriched with vital oxygen. The interplay of filter 

pump and filter is indispensable for good water 

quality. The experts at OASE are always thinking

of real powerpacks that can do more than just pump 

water. There are intelligent models that feed 

the right volume of water to the filter based on 

temperature, and thus enable intelligent and low 

power consumption pond management. For some 

models the power can be variably adjusted, also 

via remote control. With so many innovations 

selection of the right pump is incredibly easy. 

Characteristic of all filter and watercourse pumps 

are the facts that they deliver particularly high 

volumes of water in a short time, and deliver 

coarse debris to ten millimetres in size to the 

filter, and that they do it with particular energy 

efficiency. Once you have decided on a pump 

type, the necessary capacity can be determined 

via the size of the pond or the watercourse.

The FiltoMatic CWS is the optimal extension for the 

fi lter pump. The interaction of these two components prevents water 

pollution due to excess nutrients, silt, and suspended algae. 

Strong: Filter and watercourse pumps 

The requirements that must be satisfied by 

a filter and watercourse pump are quickly 

explained. It must be designed in such a manner 

that it can pump a particularly high volume of 

water, and the contaminants introduced into the 

pond through leaves, floating plants or animals, to 

the filter. However, one misunderstanding is that 

filter and watercourse pumps clean water. To clean 

water a filter is necessary that is adapted to the 

water volume of the pond. Selection of a sufficiently 

powerful combination is the key factor for the subsequent

Filter systems for clear water 

A pond is a complex ecosystem. 

And where animals and plants find an 

optimal habitat, garden owners can 

confidently lean back and enjoy. 

Observing the life in the pond is a wonderful 

pastime, however it is only possible if the 

water is clear. How you can achieve clear water 

in your own pond is only a question of technology 

– and its proper application. This is no problem 

with the Clear Water System from OASE. 

Different components matched together in such 

a manner that with recommended use they ensure 

clear water to a depth of at least one metre. This is 

even so certain that OASE gives you a Clear Water 

Guarantee. The Clear Water system offers more 

than conventional foam filters that only retain

the water. To do this you need a special filter 

such as the FiltoMatic CWS. Thus you not only 

avoid water contamination through animals, or 

leaves that have fallen into the pond, but you 

also prevent algae from spreading; algae thrives 

optimally through nutrient input and under some 

circumstances multiply to an undesirable extent. 

High-performance bacteria, such as the bacteria 

contained in the BioKick CWS Filter Starter, 

decompose the unnecessary nutrients and clean 

the water. 


Patience Most filters consist of foams, on which microorganisms 

settle. These bacteria feed on minute particles that we perceive 

as debris – a new or recently cleaned filter cannot completely 

function at its capacity. Give it a few days to start up and also 

ensure there is adequate oxygen.

All clear: Clear Water System 

All-season biologically clear water without 

having to do much – previously this was 

wishful thinking for many pond owners, now with 

the new Clear Water System this can be easily 

achieved. The system consists of up to six different 

matched components that as a set become the 

manager of the pond. Perfectly matched as a set 

that fulfills all the tasks associated with intelligent 

pond cleaning. Thus the pond filter detects the 

temperature and can vary its capacity as needed, 

and if necessary switch on the integrated UVC 

clarifier. The result is not only optimally cleaned 

water, the result is also energy savings of up to

The heart of the Clear Water Systems works reliably at 

a high level of energy efficiency. Even debris particles to 

10 mm in size are pumped from the pond floor into the 

filter – the first step toward clear water. 

2. Filter FiltoMatic CWS 

The nutrients and pollutants bound in the silt are removed 

from the water by the filter system in biological-mechanical 

processes. The system monitors the water temperature and 

activates the silt pump and the UVC device as needed. The 

filter module is available in three different sizes. 

3. Filter Starter Biokick CWS 

The filter starter contains microorganisms and bacteria 

nutrients. These ensure rapid settlement of the filter foams 

with the microorganisms that decompose contaminants. 

High-performance bacteria decompose the nutrients and 

detoxify the water. 

4. Skimmer SwimSkim CWS 

Also contaminants such as leaves and nutrients that enter the pond 

through the surface, reduce the water quality. The skimmer removes 

these contaminants before they sink, and also supplies the pond with 

vital oxygen. Sediment on the pond floor is stirred up and thus suctioned 

into the filter. 

5. Pond aerator OxyTex CWS 

Oxygen is important for maintaining good water quality, as it keeps the 

microorganisms alive. The OxyTex aerates the water, recirculates it, and 

thanks to its plant-like design, offers an extensive settlement surface for 

microorganisms that decompose the nutrients. The pond aerator can 

increase the effect of the filter by as much as 25 percent. 

6. Rock cover FiltoMatic Cap CWS 

The decorative cover with a natural-sand surface protects the FiltoMatic CWS 

buried in the ground. The cover in rock decor is weather-resistant, and 

thanks to its near-natural design is integrated inconspicuously in the

As opposed to flow-through filters, pressure filters

watercourse where they do not disturb the natural

Flow-through filters: Best prospects 

The key is in the name: A flow-through filter 

is fed by the pump in the water. The filter 

is the highest point in this cleaning cycle; from 

this point the water then flows back into the pond. 

Foams in the interior perform the actual cleaning 

of the water; after a few days these foams also 

become the home for the hard working microorganisms.

Clear and healthy water ensures undisturbed 

pond enjoyment. But what happens when 

suspended algae or other sources of turbidity turn 

the water green and thus lessen the enjoyment 

of the garden pond? Even in this case there is a

My pond is full of string algae – what can I do? 

String algae are a particularity; as opposed to suspended 

algae, which contributes to turbidity, string algae are 

always an indicator of good water quality in your garden 

pond. 

String algae grow when the oxygen content in the water 

is right. Consequently they are also found in watercourses 

since oxygen input is particularly high in watercourses due 

to water movement. String algae should be removed regularly 

e.g. with the OASE Pondovac, which offers a special 

string algae nozzle. Our Aqua Activ String Algae Control 

biologically eliminates string algae and lets them die off. 

Because string algae occurs at high phosphate content, 

Phosless filter media tubes (that must be changed approximately 

every six to eight weeks) help reduce string algae 

over the long term. 

My pond water is green – what can I do? 

Suspended algae grow if there is strong sunlight exposure 

and excess nutrients (e.g. through fish food, plant remains) 

and make the water turbid. A UVC clarifier destroys 

suspended algae which then flocculates and is removed 

through the mechanical/biological cleaning process in the 

filter. If suspended algae occur in spite of a filter system 

with established micro organisms check whether the UVC 

bulb needs to be replaced (this is necessary approximately 

once a year). 

There is silt on the pond fl oor – what can I do? 

Silt can accumulate on the pond floor even when using 

a filter system with established microorganisms that has 

been effective for some time. In this case it helps to occasionally 

vacuum up the silt, and it helps to add OASE Aqua 

Activ Silt Remover to the pond. 

You can see the hose, where it goes over the edge 

of the pond – what can I do? 

OASE Tradux wall and liner transition makes it possible to 

route hoses and cable directly through the pond liner into 

the soil for concealed underground installation. And it is 

absolutely safe! It is easiest to integrate the transitions 

when constructing the pond. 

Which hose diameter should I select? 

The following always applies: The greater the diameter of 

the hose, the better – at the very least you should select 

a hose diameter of 1.5 inches to avoid unnecessary pressure 

loss and the associated higher power costs for operating the 

pump. Always ensure that you cut the stepped hose adapter 

off at the appropriate diameter. 

How do I calculate my pond volume? 

Calculate length x width x average depth in m. Example: 

3 m x 4 m x 0.75 m = 9 m 3 = 9000 l 

Does my fi lter system need to be operated constantly? 

To work efficiently the filter system should be operated 

24 hours a day – also to prevent the valuable microorganisms 

that settle on the filter foams from dying off due to 

insufficient oxygen supply. After installation of the filter 

system it can take several weeks for these microorganisms 

to form, and for the pond to become clear. You can intervene 

in a supportive manner by adding Biokick CWS filter 

starter to the pond. 

How do I care for my pond technology in winter? 

Microorganisms that are effective in biological cleaning 

processes are active at temperatures greater than 10 °C. 

Consequently, water should flow through the filter 24 hours 

a day during this period. If the temperature drops below 

10 °C, this is no longer necessary, and the filter can remain 

where it is installed, it is frost-proof. We recommend using 

Biokick CWS each spring to accelerate generation of microorganisms. 

Pumps that are not frost-proof should be 

cleaned and stored in a container filled with water. The 

OASE Aquamax Eco CWS pumps can remain in the pond 

over winter; they are absolutely frost-proof. 

What is the ideal number of fi sh for my size 

of pond? How much should I feed them? 

Fish are an attraction for every pond. However, bear in 

mind that each fish stresses pond water through excretion 

and excess fish food – the greater the nutrient input, the 

better the conditions for algae and pathogens to flourish. 

We recommend a maximum of 1 kg fish stock per 1,000 l 

pond volume. Ideally you should feed your fish several times 

a day in extremely small quantities and only as much as the 

fish consume in a maximum of 2–3 minutes. Each feeding 

means nutrient input and thus provides a basis for algae 

growth. 

How much liner do I need to build a pond? 

The following formulas help with the calculation: 

Length + 2 x depth at the deepest point of the excavation 

+ 2 x 50 cm = length of the liner 

Width + 2 x depth at the deepest point of the excavation 

+ 2 x 50 cm = width of the liner 

Use a measuring tape to measure your pond for the precise 

values! Small ponds up to 4 m 3 require a depth of at least 

60–80 cm, medium-size ponds greater than 5–8 m 3 require 

a depth of 80–100 cm.

OASE Clear Water Guarantee 

A pond is only attractive if it has really 

clear water. But fish, plants and other pond 

inhabitants also profit from biologically 

cleaned water worlds. 

Worth knowing 

Definition of the Clear Water Guarantee OASE guarantees clear water in 

the pond to all 

purchasers of an OASE filter system, in accordance with the selection table*, proper set up and maintenance of 

the system, as specified in the setup instructions, and after registration. 

What does clear water mean? Fish, plants, or rocks on the pond floor are recognisable to a pond 

depth of 1 m below the pond surface. 

Definition of pond The Clear Water Guarantee is granted exclusively for ponds in the conventional 

sense of the term. A pond is an artificially created body of water made of liner or in a pond shell with minimum 

planting of one third of the water surface and is exposed to sunlight for 4–6 hours a day. The location of the 

pond is at least 4 m away from deciduous trees and/or conifers. All other bodies of water, particularly architectural 

bodies of water without adequate planting are excluded from the Clear Water Guarantee. 

Correct operation of the filter system OASE filters work mechanically and biologically, 

consequently 24-hour continuous operation of filter system and pump is necessary. It can take up to six weeks 

for a pond to clear, depending on the condition of the pond. For the first use and every new use in the spring the 

application of OASE Biokick CWS Filter Starter bacteria is prerequisite. 

Registration Registration must be executed within 3 months from the date of purchase on the Internet at 

www.oase-livingwater.com/uk-guarantee or by sending the completed registration card provided with the filter 

system with a copy of the purchase receipt to OASE. 

Validity The prerequisite for the Clear Water Guarantee is the purchase of an OASE filter system in accordance 

with the selection table*, proper setup as well as maintenance of the system in accordance with the setup/ 

use instructions, and appropriate registration. The Clear Water Guarantee is valid for the period of operational 

use of the OASE filter system in accordance with the provisions specified in our operating instructions, which 

is a maximum of 3 years from the purchase date. This guarantee is void if the installation instructions in the 

operating manual are not complied with, and/or if the wrong system was selected, and/or if the system is not 

handled properly. The guarantee is invalidated if there is concurrent use of products for filtration or the use of 

pond care products from other manufacturers, particularly the use of pond care products that contain copper. 

Processing if there is a guarantee claim If there is a guarantee claim contact your stockist 

directly, or alternatively contact the OASE Hotline +44 (0) 1264 333225. If a guarantee claim is submitted OASE 

has the right to check the filter system two times and to undertake appropriate rectification measures. If after 

this has been done the water is not clear as defined in the guarantee the purchase price will by refunded when 

the filter system is returned to OASE. More extensive claims arising from the Clear Water Guarantee do not exist. 

The legal guarantee rights of the purchaser remain unaffected through the Clear Water Guarantee.
