<strong>the</strong>se forms be used for narcotics, c<strong>on</strong>trolled<br />

substances and n<strong>on</strong>-narcotics?<br />

Provided that <strong>the</strong>re are no changes <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> form, and that <strong>the</strong> form is signed and dated by <strong>the</strong><br />

prescriber, <strong>the</strong>y may be c<strong>on</strong>sidered as a new prescripti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

This also applies <strong>to</strong> narcotics, c<strong>on</strong>trolled substances and<br />

n<strong>on</strong>-narcotics.<br />

Reminder: a “c<strong>on</strong>trolled substance” is defined in <strong>the</strong> C<strong>on</strong>trolled<br />

Drug and Substances Act (CDSA), and refers <strong>to</strong><br />

any substance listed in Schedules I, II, III, IV and V of <strong>the</strong><br />

Act. These schedules include c<strong>on</strong>trolled drugs, narcotics,<br />

benzodiazepines and targeted substances. Once signed<br />

and dated, <strong>the</strong> informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> form meets all of <strong>the</strong><br />

requirements of a new prescripti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Is <strong>the</strong>re a difference between <strong>the</strong> classes of drugs<br />

which Chiropodists and Podiatrists can prescribe?<br />

The College of Chiropodists of Ontario regulates both<br />

Chiropodists and Podiatrists. A chiropody and podiatry<br />

class member holding a general of academic class certificate<br />

of registrati<strong>on</strong> may prescribe a drug set out in<br />

Schedule 2 or Schedule 3 respectively <strong>to</strong> this regulati<strong>on</strong>,<br />

if <strong>the</strong> member complies with <strong>the</strong>ir standards of practice.<br />
