Any student who leaves the premises AFTER SCHOOL will not be allowed to return to the school grounds for any after-school sponsored activity without that child's parent in attendance. Our Lady of Grace School's legal responsibility ends when a student leaves the campus. The school's responsibility can only be reinstated by the parent's presence on campus that same day. HOT LUNCH: Our Hot Lunch program, administered by the Grossmont Union High School District, will begin on Tuesday, September 4. The menu for each month will be posted on our website. The cost per meal is $3.00, including white milk, and may be purchased every day or on the days of your choice. It is strongly recommended that you purchase a ticket of 10 lunches to safeguard for those “emergency” days! Please make all checks payable to Our Lady of Grace School. NO LUNCH FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT will be available until Tuesday, September 4 th . The PTG and the Student Council will offer lunches the first 3 full days of school. Look for the order form on the website in August. DEPARTMENTAL GRADES: Grades 6, 7, and 8 are departmentalized according to the following schedule: Mrs. Michelle Kerr Social Studies Grs. 6,7 & 8 Mrs. Lauren Terrell Literature Grs. 6, 7 & 8 Ms. Michelle Beeche Math Grs. 7 & 8 Mr. Frank Millican Science and Spanish Grs. 6,7 & 8 Mrs. Sharon Lathrop Language Arts Grs. 7 & 8 All other grade level subjects in grades 6, 7, and 8 will be taught by each homeroom teacher. CLASSROOM SUPPLIES: A copy of the school supply list for each grade is posted on the website. (Most of the school supplies for kindergartners are bought by the school and shared.) Please make sure your child has adequate supplies throughout the school year. Most supplies will need to be refreshed in January and April. OFFICE DEPOT PROGRAM: Once again, Office Depot is offering support to local schools. Families and teachers purchasing school supplies from May 1 through December 31 at Office Depot and specifying Our Lady of Grace School (#70007535) as the designee will credit 5% of the sales to our school. This program is a great help since credits are used in keeping down the cost of paper and office supplies. UNITED WAY/OLG SCHOOL: As in past years, donors participating in their workplace fund drive, the Combined Federal or United Way Campaign, have the opportunity to designate to schools. They need only write in the school’s designated number 99772 or the school’s name and address on the pledge card. Gifts of checks, credit cards, and stocks/securities are all options and the funds are being forwarded to schools (a small bank fee for credit card charges may apply). This is a wonderful opportunity to see your donations "at work" in our school. You may designate special projects for your 10
monies (technology, classroom renovation account, science materials, etc.) These donations are greatly needed, and we thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness. CARTRIDGES FOR KIDS: We continue to collect used cartridges from all copiers and ink jet/laser printers, and used cell phones. Each donated item earns OLG money! If you (or your office) have any of these items, please save them to recycle with us. They can be dropped off at the covered bin located in the area between grade 1 and the office beginning the first day of school. If you have them available during the summer, just place them by the front gate. BOOK BAGS: Each student is required to have a book bag large enough to hold all the books and supplies he/she needs during the day. Book bags are to be of durable material and have shoulder straps so that they can be hung on the back of the desks during school hours. Due to the necessity of junior high students changing classrooms during the school day, students in grades 6-8 may use book bags that have wheels, as long as they also have shoulder straps so they can hang on the back of the desk chairs, or fit completely under the desk. COVERS FOR BOOKS: All hard cover textbooks MUST be covered. Book Sox can be used or covers can be made from brown paper grocery bags. Please do not tape these covers to the hard covers of the book. (This will rip the inside cover when removing the paper cover.) Also, please do not use contact paper on the hard cover textbooks. (Contact paper cannot be removed from the hard cover of the book without leaving a permanent, sticky residue.) However, contact paper is highly recommended for all workbooks. The contact paper keeps the workbooks in very good condition all year. If you cannot afford contact paper for workbooks, the brown paper grocery bags or Book Sox are the next best covers. SPECIAL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT BOOKS: These special homework books have been ordered for all students in grades 4-8. These books will help to organize the homework assignments for your child each day. They should last the entire school year. SHOE POLICY: Parents, please observe our school shoe policy. Purchase running shoes (no high or midtops) with the designated solid colors of black, white, navy blue, royal blue, gray, or any combination of these colors. (no flashing lights) No Vans, Keds, etc. Shoelaces must match the dominant color of the shoe and be of a correct length to securely tie the shoe. LOST AND FOUND: Lost articles are placed in the containers outside the Reading Center. These articles can be reclaimed by their owners at this site. Please label everything! MAJOR FUND RAISERS: The Magazine Drive will be one of our three schoolwide fund raisers again this school year. Only those families who signed up to participate in the drive - $150 minimum of magazine sales per family – will have students who participate in the prize contests. The kick-off date will be Tuesday, September 11. The drive will then last three weeks. So please save your renewals and new subscriptions for our drive in September, and ask your relatives, neighbors, friends, and co-workers to do the same. More details will come to you in September. 11
