WARRANT: The original warrant was destroyed by fire; the one now in possession of the Lodge is dated June 5, 1874. When first organized it was known as Cameron Lodge, No. 77; it became Lewis Lodge, No. 104, in 1845. MINUTES: Not intact. The records and all other property of the Lodge were destroyed by fire May 10, 1874. The destruction of the records of the Lodge and the loss of all papers relating to its early life shrouds its history in uncertainty, and but little is known concerning its affairs previous to its revival in 1840. The Grand Lodge Register contains the following concerning its revival: "Revived and officers installed August S. 1840. "John H. Alexander. Master. "Job Goff, Senior Warden. "Peroz O. Cole, Junior Warden. "Warrant forfeited June, 1844. "Revived June 6, 1845. “No returns until after the warrant was declared forfeited by the Grand Lodge in June 1844, and demanded by the Grand Secretary, when their returns were made and $36.00 paid, but the Lodge was not informed of the nullity of the warrant: the Grand Master, however, directed Bro. GREAVES to inform the Lodge and see that the demand of the Grand Lodge was complied with. Warrant surrendered May 30, 1845, but no property. Charter revived in June, 1845, and name changed to Lewis, 104." The warrant issued June 5, 1874, as a substitute for the one destroyed, names as officers: Melvin Graves, Master. Luke R. Goff, Senior Warden. William H. Graves, Junior Warden. The destruction of the building and the loss of all property owned by the Lodge in May, 1874, was a severe blow to the Lodge, but with undaunted courage the members immediately began the erection of a new building, and before the close of the year it again was in possession of a comfortable home; since then it has enjoyed a fair share of success and is free from debt. The Secretary, A. H. BALDWIN, has served the Lodge in that capacity for nearly thirty years. The Lodge was represented at the laying of the corner-stone of the Home at Utica, May 21, 1891; it held Jubilee services April, 24, 1889; the address of the Grand Master was read and short addresses were made by several members of the Lodge. Alden. 1904-05 Frank G. Mackie. 1906. Ithiel H. Stewart. NORTH STAR LODGE, NO. 107, BRUSHTON, NY. WARRANT: The original warrant, dated June 5, 1846, is in possession of the Lodge. Name or number has not been changed. MINUTES: Intact. The officers named in the warrant are: Josiah F. Saunders, Master. Otis Farrar, Senior Warden. Amasa Harrington. Junior Warden. 4
A dispensation was granted to form the Lodge on September 3, 1844, which was to continue until May 15, 1845. Upon this date it was extended for another year. The Lodge failed to secure a warrant at the time the dispensation first expired, because the by-laws adopted by the Lodge were not approved by the Grand Lodge, consequently it worked under dispensation for nearly two years. Unfortunately there are no records in existence concerning the doings of the Lodge when first organized; the first recorded meeting is dated April 8, 1846. On June 8, 1846, a dispensation was issued to ORIN HOUGH to constitute the Lodge and install the officers. These ceremonies took place July 4, 1846. When organized, the Lodge was located at Lawrenceville, St. Lawrence County, where it remained until 1855. On the minutes of a meeting held December 27, 1854. is the following: "It was unanimously voted that this Lodge be moved to Moira Corners as soon as possible." The first meeting held at Moira was on January 31, 1855. It remained there until 1887. On November 10, 1886, the Lodge voted to remove to Brushton, and on December 1, 1886, M.'. W.'. FRANK R. LAWRENCE granted a dispensation to remove the Lodge from Moira to Brushton, subject to the approval of the Grand Lodge. At a session of the Grand Lodge, the Committee on Warrants, to whom this matter had been referred, offered the following resolution, which was adopted: "Resolved. That North Star Lodge, No. 107. F. and A. M., of Moira, Franklin County, be permitted to hold its communications and continue its work at the village of Brushton, in the said county, without change in jurisdiction." In the report the committee said: "In this case it appears that the room of North Star Lodge, No. 107, at Moira, Franklin County, was unsuitable for the purpose of the Lodge, and that proper accommodations could not be obtained at that place. The Lodge, at a stated communication, decided, by a two-third vote of the members present, to change its place of meeting, and the consent of Bangor Lodge, No. 556, having been obtained, no good reason appears why such permission should not be granted." The first meeting at Brushton was held February 9, 1887. The Lodge held Jubilee services on April 24, 1889, in conjunction with Northern Constellation Lodge, No. 291. It was represented at the laying of the corner-stone of the Home at Utica, May 21, 1891, and at the dedication of same, October 5, 1892. GRAND LODGE OFFICERS. George W. Y. WARRANT: The warrant in possession of the Lodge is dated June 8: intact. Name or number has never been changed. It was organized in the early part of 1846; a dispensation was granted April 9, 1846, and on April 15th, the first meeting was held. The officers named in the dispensation and warrant were: Samuel L. Bigelow, Master. Hiram Depew, Senior Warden. Elisha H. Huntington, Junior Warden. Previous to the advent of Milo Lodge, another Lodge named Penn Yan had been working under a dispensation granted July 16. 1845. For reasons not clearly understood the dispensation was revoked by M.'.W.'. JOHN D. WILLARD, January 11, 1846. This dispensation named as officers: Samuel L. Bigelow, Master.
