<strong>CII</strong> <strong>AVANTHA</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> with GIZ to cont<strong>in</strong>ue support alumni<br />
Indo German Manager Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Programme, <strong>in</strong> association with GIZ, Germany, is <strong>CII</strong>-<br />
<strong>AVANTHA</strong> <strong>Centre</strong>’s highly successful <strong>SME</strong> engagement enabl<strong>in</strong>g participants to ga<strong>in</strong><br />
hands-on tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Germany. A pioneer<strong>in</strong>g cross-cultural bus<strong>in</strong>ess tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itiative,<br />
the programme offers <strong>SME</strong>’s access to some of the world’ best companies and exposure<br />
on ways to do bus<strong>in</strong>ess with Germany. The programme has maximized bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
opportunities <strong>for</strong> more than 80 <strong>SME</strong> participants, with the active alumni <strong>in</strong>teraction and<br />
GIZ’s support.<br />
GIZ, the German agency responsible <strong>for</strong> <strong>SME</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programmes <strong>in</strong> Germany, held its<br />
first Alumni Conference <strong>in</strong> New Delhi <strong>in</strong> August 2012, with its partners. <strong>CII</strong> <strong>AVANTHA</strong><br />
<strong>Centre</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>SME</strong> competitiveness is a nodal agency facilitat<strong>in</strong>g the Indo German Manager<br />
Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programme. <strong>CII</strong>-<strong>Avantha</strong> identifies fitt<strong>in</strong>g <strong>SME</strong>s <strong>for</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Germany. Three<br />
successful batches have attended the programme and the fourth programme is<br />
underway.<br />

avenues <strong>for</strong> their bus<strong>in</strong>ess and professional growth. The <strong>CII</strong> <strong>AVANTHA</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> will<br />
cont<strong>in</strong>ue to support the Alumni along with GIZ.”<br />
3 rd edition of Indo German Manager Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Programme, a 22 member delegation of<br />
managers and CEOs from <strong>SME</strong> companies were given a four week tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g tour to<br />
Germany last year. This enabled 96 new bus<strong>in</strong>ess contacts and <strong>in</strong>itiated 11 new jo<strong>in</strong>t<br />
ventures.<br />
The 4 th edition of Indo German Manager Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Programme is underway. After a<br />
rigorous selection process, 23 participants have made the grade <strong>for</strong> this year’s<br />
programme. Participants have already undergone the Indian leg of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g at <strong>CII</strong><br />
Gurgaon, and will visit Germany <strong>in</strong> September-October 2012.<br />

The Indian leg of the Indo German Manager tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g enables orientation <strong>for</strong> optimiz<strong>in</strong>g<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess benefits dur<strong>in</strong>g the visit to Germany. The focus is on ways to generate bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
contacts and to translate them <strong>in</strong>to profitable ventures.<br />
Extended to Healthcare Sector<br />
Follow<strong>in</strong>g the success of the programme, BMWI (German Federal M<strong>in</strong>istry of Economics<br />
and Technology) has now extended the programme to specific sectors as well.<br />
Accord<strong>in</strong>gly, the Healthcare Sector has been chosen <strong>for</strong> the year 2012, and selected<br />
participants from Indian Healthcare sector will visit Germany <strong>for</strong> the programme dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
November and December 2012. The team will be part of an International <strong>Group</strong><br />
attend<strong>in</strong>g the programme. Other countries participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the International group<br />
<strong>in</strong>clude Russia, Vietnam.<br />
Alumni Speak: Speak<strong>in</strong>g about his German tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g experience, , Rajat Bajaj, Partner,<br />
Jamuna Udyog and a participant from the 2011 batch said, “a M<strong>in</strong>i MBA <strong>for</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
skills, factory visits and <strong>Group</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>gs at various <strong>for</strong>ums helped <strong>in</strong> widen<strong>in</strong>g my<br />
horizon. German culture and people knowledge will help <strong>in</strong>crease my bus<strong>in</strong>ess with<br />
Germany and Europe”. Other past participants also acknowledged that the programme<br />
has been effective <strong>in</strong> augment<strong>in</strong>g their bus<strong>in</strong>ess and <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g a deep <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong>to<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry best practices, as well as <strong>in</strong> <strong>for</strong>m<strong>in</strong>g a useful network.<br />
Background: In 2008, a jo<strong>in</strong>t declaration held between India’s M<strong>in</strong>istry of Commerce<br />
and Industry and Federal Republic of Germany to foster economic co-operation through<br />
a bilateral tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programme <strong>for</strong> Indian Executives and Managers. Confederation of<br />
Indian Industry (<strong>CII</strong>) was identified as one of the nodal agency to facilitate the process<br />
by identify<strong>in</strong>g suitable participants from <strong>in</strong>dustry to undergo advanced tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
programme <strong>in</strong> Germany. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit<br />
(GIZ) GmbH ( Formerly InWEnt) was entrusted with the task of conduct<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
programmes <strong>in</strong> Germany.<br />
At <strong>CII</strong>, the <strong>CII</strong> <strong>AVANTHA</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Competitiveness</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>SME</strong>s is responsible <strong>for</strong> this<br />
programme. Under the 1 st and 2 nd programme, a total of over 45 senior manager/<strong>SME</strong><br />
owners were sent to Germany. <strong>CII</strong> and GIZ organized the 1st Indo-German Managers<br />
Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Programme (MP) <strong>in</strong> 2009 and the 2nd Indo German Manager Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
Programme (MP) <strong>in</strong> 2010.<br />
