Turarbekova Roza Maratovna Born in Almaty (Kazakhstan). Graduated from the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) (1992), completed the postgraduate course in KazNU (1995). In 1997 – 1998 was a deputy dean at the international relations department at Kainar University (Kazakhstan). An associate professor at the department of international relations at Belarusian State University since 2000. Associate Professor, candidate of science (history, 1997). Аuthor of more than 30 academic publications and 85 articles. Academic interests: International relations, problems of Asian regional security, foreign policy of Middle Eastern and Central Asian states.
PRESENTATION No doubt that Turkey comes first among the countries recognizing the new republics established after the collapse of the USSR. Turkey developed cooperation not only with Turkic republics but also with states such as Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Belarus. Its geographical closeness to the region made it easier for Turkey to find new markets and also Turkey became a tourism attraction center for tourists coming from the former Soviet countries. Thus, Turkey developed cooperation with former Soviet countries in trade, economy, energy, and tourism sectors in a quite short period of time. Its cultural relations with Turkic republics also develop quite rapidly. In this report, Turkey’s relations with former Soviet republics are dealt with. This report was prepared by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turarbekova Roza Maratovna from the Faculty of International Relations at Belarusian State University. The last two reports ORSAM The Black Sea International published had also been written by Belarusian academicians. As mentioned in our previous publications, these three reports are the result of cooperation developed between ORSAM and the scientific institutions in Belarus. We publish this report in three languages (Turkish, Russian, English) as previous reports in order to address larger crowds. We extend our thanks to the Embassy of Belarus in Turkey which provided full support in the process of publishing these reports, and hope that these reports will be read with great interest in Turkey.
