CVS Community Grants for Public Schools-Creating Inclusive School Settings- I Kissimmee Middle School $4,999 I Pending 

IIMobile Interactive Support Stations"-Grant funds will be used to establish a 

Mobile Interactive Support Station equipped with materials needed to quickly 

and effectively reteach Math and Language Arts/Reading concepts to 6 th _8 th 

grade exceptional students. The center will include iPads, board games, and 

teacher created manipulative resources that can be brought to inclusion 

classrooms. Students have the advantage of increased instructional time since 

the resources "come to them" eliminating student travel time. 

Target Field Trip-IiCivii War Re-enactment Field Trip"-Funding from this grant I Parkway Middle School $2/000 I Pending 

allow 8 th grade students studying the Civil War to observe a re-enactment 

of "The Battle of Narcoossee". The students will observe encampments, 

medical tents/ and demonstrations of what life was like for women as 

homemakers raising families. This educational trip aligns with 8 th grade 

American History Standards. 

Target Field Trip-"Field Trip to Florida's Holocaust Museum//-9 th grade I Harmony High School $700 I Pending 

Language Arts students will benefit from funding of this grant by participating in 

a field trip to the Florida Holocaust Museum. Students will get to see and hear 

about the struggles of persecuted people during the holocaust. This trip 

provide students with a better understanding ofthe cause and effect ofthe 

holocaust and how the world was impacted by the events that occurred before/ 

during, and after this time period. Students will have the opportunity to read 

how those involved documented events as well as participate in group 

discussions. 

Air Force Grant- The funds for this project will be used to purchase I Kissimmee Middle School $243.84 I Pending 

materials/supplies for a hands-on learning experience for 6 th grade students. 

Students will plot points for weight, drag, lift/ and thrust using the Cartesian 

Graphing System to determine if a hypothetical aircraft is flyable. Students will 

draw conclusions about the relationship between an aircraft's weight/lift and 

drag/thrust. This project was designed to help learning disabled students 

visualize the coordinate plane as well as make real world applications for 

coordinate plane.

Grant Applications 

Walmart Local Giving Program- "Parent Resource Center / - Funding from this 

grant will be used to purchase educational materials and resources such as Leap 

Frog products, math and reading flash cards, and hands-on STEM based 

materials for parents to use with their children to support and extend learning 

at home. Monthly "coffee chat" workshops will be offered to parents that will 

include "make and take" projects such as sight word flash cards and age 

appropriate math games. Guest speakers will provide presentations on topics 

such as literacy, math development, and grade level expectations. Providing 

resources to parents at a central location brings families closer together by 

encouraging parental involvement and ultimately building a stronger, better 

community. 

True Value -"2013 Painting a Brighter Future"- The gift offorty (40) gallons of 

paint will be used to paint classrooms and hallways to enhance the appearance 

of the school. Walt Disney World "Volunteers", a local Cub Scouts of America 

troop, high school volunteers, and the schools PTO group has committed to 

volunteering time and energy to this project. 

Ezra Jack Keats Mini-Grant-IIMake My Home a Gnome"- With a little clay and a 

lot of imagination students will design and paint garden gnomes. Research will 

be done to learn how gnomes were believed to have magical powers to art and 

writing skills and standards. Students will learn how to use clay as a medium 

and write fictional stories demonstrating their understanding of story elements 

and structures unique to fairy tales. Grant funds will be used to purchase clay 

and art materials necessary to implement this project based learning 

opportunity. 

Osceola County Community Development Betterment Grant- "Harmony 

Helmet Program"-Funds from this grant will be used to purchase football 

helmets for student-athletes to ensure player safety. Typically, a football 

helmet can be used for ten (10) years, so replacing helmets is an ongoing and 

expensive. Harmony High School Football Program, Harmony High School 

Booster Club, and Parents of Harmony High Football Players support and share 

in the responsibility of this project.

Capital Projects 

Estimated Revenue increased by $1,317,600 to match actual collections for State Gasoline Tax, 

the sale of surplus equipment and school buses, and to adjust the projection for Impact Fee 

revenue. 

Appropriations increased by a net amount of $105,200 to make additional funding available for 

portable rentals while reducing the remaining computer equipment budget for the Highlands 

Elementary renovation project. 

Ending Fund Balance increased by $1,212,400 as a result of the changes to Estimated Revenue 

and Appropriations.

Special Revenue 

Estimated Revenue increased by $682,000 to reflect the receipt of a new 21 st Century

request approval of the new awards from the Board, or 

2. Staff will issue new bids now for a two (2) year term. Once the bids are ready to be awarded, Staff will bring 

them before the Board for approval. All current contracts will be terminated at the same time.

Termination Hearing for Henry Brown 



Under authority of Board Rule 6.37 and Florida Statutes section 1012.67, the Superintendent provided in a letter 

dated December 4, 2012 and served to Mr. Henry Brown, advising him of her recommendation to terminate him 

for abandonment of position due to he has not reported to work since November 6, 2012 due to his 

incarceration in the Osceola County Jail. Additionally provided in the letter was his notice and information as to 

his rights to request a termination hearing. 

The employee has submitted the attached written request dated December 5, 2012, requesting that the Board 

schedule a termination hearing in respect of the Superintendent’s recommendation for termination. The matter 

does not involve disputed issues of material fact, therefore the additional procedures set out in Section 120.57 

(2), Florida Statutes shall apply.
