What are Toy Libraries?
All Toy Library are different. Some cater for families, some for child carers (formal & informal), and some for both. They offer a range of
resources from toys to books, pushchairs, cots and safety equipment.
Some are mobile projects, some offer home visiting and others play sessions. Some might open for one session per week and offer a basic but
valuable service. Others are able to provide a range of services and open Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 17.00, perhaps even offering a
weekend and/or evening service. Then there is everything in between.
However a Toy Library operates you can be sure they will all offer a warm welcome and:
• A toy and play equipment loan service.
• A support and advice service.
Toy Libraries can support the attainment of goals and targets as identifies in a wide range of local authority plans.
They often play a significant role in Sure Start Programmes, Neighbourhood Nurseries and Children’s Centres
