HCDS Festival Raises Over $24,000
for Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital
Harbor Country Day School’s
Strawberry Festival, held on June
4, 2011, to support Stony Brook
Long Island Children’s Hospital
was a phenomenal success. Well
over 1,000 people attended the
inaugural event to enjoy both the
festivities and a spectacular
spring day. The activities began
with a VFW Color Guard flag
ceremony and a greeting from
Harbor Country Day School’s
Chair of the Board of Trustees,
David A. Essex and Stony Brook
Long Island Children’s Hospital
Physician-in-Chief, Dr. Margaret
M. McGovern.
Sounds of laughter and live
music filled the air as visitors of
all ages enjoyed strawberry
shortcake eating contests,
bounce houses, pony rides and
the many food, craft and specialty
gift vendors
in attendance.
Guided
tours of the historic
Tulip Knoll
Mansion, current
home of Harbor
Country Day
School, were
also available
throughout the
day for curious
visitors and history
buffs alike.
The special
events concluded with an exciting
strawberry stemming contest,
a giant game of Simon Says and
the awarding of several fabulous
door prizes. By all accounts the
day was a complete success and
raised over $24,000 (when figuring
in a matching grant from an
anonymous donor) for the Stony
Brook Long Island Children’s
Hospital.
A check was presented to
Stony Brook Long Island Children’s
Hospital on Wednesday,
July 8, 2011 at the school.
