What is Payload?<br />
• Simply put, payload is the amount of cargo/load <strong>and</strong> people<br />
a vehicle will carry. That’s LEGALLY carry not Physically<br />
carry!<br />
• The payload for UK vehicles is usually given in units of<br />
Kilograms (Americans use Pounds)<br />

Check taxation class.<br />

• Fine up to £5000!!<br />
• Realistic VOSA guidelines<br />

• Severity Endorsable FP amount <br />
• 0 up to but not including 10% No £60.00 <br />
• 10% up to but not including 15% No £120.00 <br />
• 15% <strong>and</strong> over No £200.00 <br />
• Above 30% or road safety concerns ‐ Court Summons !!<br />
VOSA examiners should allow a 5% tolerance before Fixed Penalty or Prohibition issue<br />
unless the relevant weight has been exceeded by 1 tonne or more .<br />

• 2009 – 2010 40%<br />
• 2010 – 2011 58%<br />
Average fine for 2010 – 2011 ‐ £680<br />
• This years figures suggest near 75% of motor homes overloaded!!<br />

‐ Slight variation in comparison of weights.<br />
‐ Allowance of error for weighbridge <strong>and</strong> weight/load pads.<br />

Cons – Loading tolerance removed, loading critical.<br />

Pros – greater loading ability, possible higher increase<br />
