FISHERIES<br />
Responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the Division <strong>of</strong> Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
protection, management and enhancement <strong>of</strong> the state’s fish and wildlife<br />
resources. The Division meets these responsibilities through coord<strong>in</strong>ated,<br />
scientifically sound enforcement, management, research, development and<br />
educational programs. Qualifications for staff members <strong>of</strong> all sections vary<br />
accord<strong>in</strong>g to their specialized functions. The clerical staff performs various<br />
functions related to <strong>of</strong>fice management, procurement, account<strong>in</strong>g, personnel<br />
matters, and assist<strong>in</strong>g the public with <strong>in</strong>formation requests.<br />
The Enforcement Section is responsible for protection <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong>’s wildlife<br />
and fisheries resources. <strong>Conservation</strong> Enforcement Officers have an excit<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and reward<strong>in</strong>g outdoor job that demands strength, character, and a high<br />
degree <strong>of</strong> self-motivation. Anyone pursu<strong>in</strong>g a career as a <strong>Conservation</strong> Enforcement<br />
Officer must:<br />
• Have a high school diploma (college preferred)<br />
• Be <strong>in</strong> good physical condition<br />
• Pass an <strong>in</strong>-depth background <strong>in</strong>vestigation<br />
• Qualify to be certified as a law enforcement <strong>of</strong>ficer by the <strong>Alabama</strong><br />
Peace Officers Standards and Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Commission.<br />
The Fisheries Section utilizes pr<strong>of</strong>essional and technical personnel. Fisheries<br />
biologists study the life history and population dynamics <strong>of</strong> fish, propagate<br />
various species <strong>of</strong> hatchery fish, comment on environment projects, and provide<br />
<strong>in</strong>put for the management <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> fish populations. All fisheries biologist<br />
positions require the completion <strong>of</strong> bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree is<br />
preferred for certa<strong>in</strong> positions.<br />
