PBS AFRICA AIR SAFARI
South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana
April 1 – 21, 2013
Hosted by Mike Venturino and Micki Carter, under
the direction of Dave Vanderspuy of African Aero
Safaris, Johannesburg, South Africa
(www.areosafari.com) a fabulous air safari has
been planned through parts of South Africa,
Zimbabwe and Botswana!
Dave, who has led several PBS air safaris
over the past years, suggests a 15-18 day
itinerary that would take four couples in four
planes (C172s or PA28s) from
Johannesburg, to Pilanesberg National Park
(http://www.pilanesberg-gamereserve.co.za),
to Tuli Private Game
Reserve on the Limpopo River
(http://www.kwatuli.co.za), to Matopos National Park, the Lower Zambezi
National Park (www.zambezi.com/location/lower_zambezi_national_park)
and then Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River between Zimbabwe and
Zambia, to the Okavango Delta and Kalahari Desert in Botswana, returning
via South Africa’s Waterberg Biosphere (www.waterbergbiosphere.org) and
back to Johannesburg.
According to Dave, this itinerary covers most of everything
anyone can see and experience —intense wildlife,
cultures, scenery, African vibe and style — interwoven
among Victoria Falls, the deserts and deltas, the
mysterious Matopos Hills, Lake Kariba, Zambezi River
canyon and valley and just awesome flying.
April will put us in the late summer in the Southern
Hemisphere when, Dave suggests, the weather should be
spectacular.
We will need to arrive in South Africa three days before the safari begins to
deal with pilots' license validations, which Dave's team will initiate for each
pilot in the months before we arrive.
Total cost for the trip will be in the range of $21,000-$26,000 per couple,
depending on number of days and the current exchange rate for the local
currency.

Some of us, who missed out on Cape Town in 2010, are considering an
add-on to see this part of South Africa before or after the safari. We don’t
have any information on those costs yet.
We will be asking for $3,500 per couple as a deposit six months out
(September 2012). We will maintain a wait list and keep everyone updated
on details as they emerge.
