If you have trouble paying your winter heating bills, the Pennsylvania Low-
Crafton Crime Watch
honored for its service
to community
In September, I presented a number of legislative citations to area
residents during a Community Service Awards program hosted by
Crafton Mayor Susan O’Connell.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ citations honored the
members of the Crafton Crime Watch for their efforts in fighting crime.
To have a group be the eyes and ears of a neighborhood or community
is critical to thwarting crime. The police just can’t be everywhere all the
time, and it is groups like these – with their 20-plus years of existence –
that can make a real difference.
More specifically, I presented citations to Janet Finlay, Katie Fazio, Bill
Finlay, Mary Flemming, Dave Aston, Sandy Gibson, Diane McQuaide,
O’Connell, Chief Harold Rost and Capt. Paul Tolkacevic for their
involvement in the crime watch.
Established in 1986, Crafton Crime Watch is a citizen crime watch
program in which the town’s residents work with the Crafton Police
Department to create a more secure community. Citizens demonstrate
their presence at all hours of the day and night and report suspicious
activity to the police who keep citizens abreast of pertinent information
through the watch’s alert electronic mailings and police department
Web site.
Crafton is divided into six crime watch areas, each headed by an area
coordinator.
Rep. Deasy presents a legislative citation to award recipients.
Deasy holds
senior health
expo
Rep. Deasy talks with a constituent
during the senior health expo he held
with state Reps. Nick Kotik and Robert
Matzie.
In October, I joined state Reps. Nick Kotik
and Robert Matzie to host a senior health
expo at the River Rocks Bingo Hall.
Allegheny County Treasurer John
Weinstein’s staff was on hand to
answer questions about county property
tax exemptions and the homestead
exemption program.
Information was also available for
services and products that benefit senior
citizens, including information from local,
state and federal agencies.
These senior forums are so important. I
look forward to hearing your views about
the district and how, together, we can
make the 27 th Legislative District the best
it can be.
Help for small business owners
I want to remind you about a program that is ongoing in my office. Because small businesses are facing many struggles
they may have.
my West End office. Please call the office for specific dates. The SBDC
