Bill Farrell was chosen by Joseph Albers to study painting at
Yale in 1955. In late 1957, he bought his first camera, a used
Leica IIIg, with an F2 50mm Sumicron lens. The following
July and August, he traveled to five countries in Europe for the first
time. With sixteen rolls of film he produced the ninety-five images
presented here. In his forty years as a photographer, he has been on
assignment to over thirty countries, shooting on approximately four
thousand locations for over five hundred companies, corporations
and institutions. In the process, he has received many awards for his
photography as well as graphic design. In the last ten years he has devoted
his time to painting, which includes a large work on display and
in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institution National
Air and Space Museum. Farrell is a native New Yorker, father of three,
and lives in Manhattan.
