DAM: San Antonio Rose<br />
Bred by Mike and Carol Elliott in Victoria<br />
and sold as a weanling to John Morrison who<br />
showed him to win PHAA National<br />
Champion colt and Yearling Futurity<br />
Champion.<br />
Purchased by Murray and Vicki Stevens in August 1992<br />
when Peppy Shaker had just turned four. His show<br />
record at that time had 16 Halter Points and 1 Western<br />
Pleasure point.<br />
Over the next two years Peppy Shaker with limited training<br />
and shown by trainer, David Norbury, Peppy attained<br />
National Championships in Western Pleasure, Reining and<br />
Get <strong>of</strong> Sire plus multiple State Championships in Halter,<br />
Trail, Western Pleasure, Western Riding and Reining. At his<br />
retirement from the show ring he was a PHAA Champion, a<br />
Superior Halter <strong>Horse</strong> plus ROMs’ in Trail, Western<br />
Pleasure, Western Riding and Reining.<br />
Sired by Peppy’s Chickabar, who was a sabino by the<br />
imported QH Crop out sire, Peppy’s Doc Bar, who now after<br />
his death has been registered QH. Chickasha Bar, the dam<br />
<strong>of</strong> Peppy’s Chickabar, was a Sabino crop out by Chickasha<br />
Dan (Imp) out <strong>of</strong> Kitty’s Gail (Imp). Peppy’s Chickabar as a<br />
two year old won the 2YO Open Breed Sires Classic Western<br />
Pleasure futurity with Craig Emerton and then as a 3YO<br />
won the Wagga Cutting Futurity again ridden by Craig<br />
Emerton. The following year he won the NCHA Derby with<br />
Graham Lamey on board.<br />
Peppy Shaker’s dam, San Antonio Rose, a loud Overo, was a<br />
PHAA Weanling Halter Futurity Champion and National/ State<br />
Weanling Filly Champion & has a Superior Halter award.<br />
Her sire, the loud Overo Diamond Jim Jnr (Imp) has only<br />
five PHAA registered progeny because he died from an<br />
injury shortly after arriving in <strong>Australia</strong>. Her dam, San Jose,<br />
was a crop out by San Leo Joe (Imp) out <strong>of</strong> Sextant (TB)<br />
who produced six PHAA Weanling Futurity Champions.<br />
Peppy Shaker has sired progeny who have shown ability in<br />
most facets <strong>of</strong> the horse industry. To name a few who have<br />
proven their sire has past on his versatility and trainable<br />
mind are;<br />
• Twin Oaks Cleopatra – trained by Natasha Backhouse and<br />
created history by being the first horse / rider combination<br />
to win all three VRHA, NSWRHA and QRHA Non-Pro<br />
Reining futurities plus the NRHA Youth Champion. Cleo<br />
also won the PHAA Senior Reining title plus multiple State<br />
Champion Reining titles.<br />

Western Pleasure, Trail, Western <strong>Horse</strong>manship, HUS and<br />

in the Charters Towers area.<br />
Peppy Shaker as a show horse has equaled or bettered what<br />
most imported <strong>Paint</strong> Sires have achieved, plus through his<br />
diversity as a sire over a limited number <strong>of</strong> mares he has put<br />
on the ground everything from Halter Futurity Champions<br />
to saddle horses <strong>of</strong> all descriptions. ✪<br />
