(b) the suitability <strong>of</strong> the applicant and his or her dependants for resettlement or<br />
rehabilitation; and<br />
(a) the state <strong>of</strong> health, educational level and the level <strong>of</strong> skills for purposes <strong>of</strong> the<br />
employment<br />
(b) prospects <strong>of</strong> the person applying for social welfare assistance.<br />
(3) For the purpose <strong>of</strong> making his or her decision in terms <strong>of</strong> subsection (1), the Director, or<br />
any other person acting on his or behalf, may require the applicant—<br />
(a) to furnish such information as is necessary to verify the facts <strong>of</strong> the application;<br />
(b) to appear personally before the Director or any other person acting on his or her behalf.<br />
10 Older Persons Fund<br />
(1) There is hereby established a fund, to be known as the Older Persons Fund.<br />
(2) The Fund shall consist <strong>of</strong>⎯<br />
(a) such monies as are payable to the Fund from monies appropriated by<br />
<strong>Parliament</strong> for the purpose <strong>of</strong> the Fund; and<br />
(b) any other monies to which the Fund may be lawfully entitled, including gifts<br />
from any source:<br />
Provided that such gifts shall be subject to approval by the Minister.<br />
(3) The Fund shall be vested in the Minister, and subject to this Act, shall be administered<br />
by the Director in accordance with the Board’s instructions.<br />
(4) The purpose <strong>of</strong> the Fund shall be ⎯<br />
(a) the provision <strong>of</strong> social welfare assistance to the destitute or indigent <strong>older</strong><br />
<strong>persons</strong>; and<br />
(b)<br />
the promotion <strong>of</strong> programmes for any one or more <strong>of</strong> the following objects-⎯<br />
(i) promoting health and education among destitute or indigent <strong>older</strong> <strong>persons</strong> and<br />
(ii)<br />
or<br />
(iii)<br />
(iv)<br />
assisting any person who wishes to establish, operate and maintain any service<br />
facility that is aimed at advancing the care and protection <strong>of</strong> <strong>older</strong> <strong>persons</strong>;<br />
providing facilities for developing skills in <strong>older</strong> <strong>persons</strong> who are in homes;<br />
any other activities or projects aimed at promoting the care and protection <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>older</strong> <strong>persons</strong>.<br />

OTHER MEASURES TO BENEFIT OLDER PERSONS<br />
11 Adjustment orders by the Board<br />
(1) This section shall apply to any⎯<br />
(a) premises in which <strong>older</strong> <strong>persons</strong> reside, whether on payment <strong>of</strong> a fee or<br />
otherwise; and
