YEAR OF ST. PAUL REFLECTION SHEET C Receiving Graciously … God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of eveything, you may share abundantly in every good work … (2 Corinthians 9:8) I often feel that if I had just a little more solitude or a bit more quiet, I’d be able to do what I need to do for “every good work”. I am always pining for larger chunks of solitude, more days on the calendar, longer hours of the day, thinking that would help my spiritual life unfold as I want. But the reality of God’s grace being enough came home to me today in a letter from a friend. She closed by saying, “May God bless you with all the quiet you need, even if it isn’t all that you want.” If I would be fully present to God in my quiet times instead of thinking about how much more quiet I could use, I would be much more in tune with God and more satisfied. Perhaps many of us feel as though we never have enough time to live our spiritual life adequately. Maybe we long for a deeper faith, for better relationships, for richer inspiration. Yet God is always bestowing upon us enough enthusiasm, generosity and truth “for every good work.” Perhaps it is time to receive the gifts we have instead of focusing on the “not enough” pieces of our lives. God of abundant grace, you are enough for me. I will savour the time I have and treasure my moments of quiet. Keep drawing me to your heart.
