Photographs from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle – Brooklyn Subjects collection is located in the
Brooklyn Collection at the Central Branch at Grand Army Plaza. The collection may only
be used in the library and is not available through interlibrary loan. Requests to view folders
of images from the collection must be made at least 48 hours in advance of visit.
Use Restrictions
While many items in the Brooklyn Collection are unrestricted, we do not own reproduction
rights to all materials. Be aware of the several kinds of rights that might apply: copyright,
licensing and trademarks. The borrower assumes all responsibility for copyright questions.

Photographs from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle Morgue: This collection comprises 35,000+
photograph files containing approximately 200,000 images from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper
that have not yet been processed and cataloged into the Brooklyn Collection’s photography files.
They cover a broad range of topics, from local Brooklyn features to national and global news. Users
may want to search this collection for topics that aren’t represented in the Historic Brooklyn
Photographs from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle collection.
Brooklyn Public Library catalog. Thousands of images from this collection and many others may
be found in our online catalog. From the main catalog page, click on “Advanced Search”. From
there, click on the “Material Type” drop-down menu and choose “Photograph”. Then enter any
keyword term into the search bar.
Arrangement
The folders are arranged alphabetically by subject, with each sub-category of a subject separated by
colons. Individuals are typically listed last name first under the Portraits subject heading, but may
appear under other subject areas as well (i.e., Sports: Baseball: Dodgers: Jackie Robinson). For those
searching for images on a specific topic or event, it is advised to try several topics related to that
subject, including personal names, neighborhood or street name, organization name, and general
keyword, to ensure a more comprehensive search. Because the list is very long, you may want to use
the “find” feature in your PDF reader to skip to relevant terms. If you don’t find a subject or
person you are looking for, you may want to also consult the Photographs from the Brooklyn
Daily Eagle Morgue collection (see Related Materials note, above).
