ELKOM for Suprema
The Scottish Show
THE SCOTTISH Woodworking
Show, due to be held towards
the end of March in Edinburgh,
was cancelled by the organisers,
Nelton Exhibitions.
This was due to the late withdrawal
of the largest exhibitor and
the knock-on effect this had on
other standholders.
“We lost 40% of the stand area in
two days,” says the organiser, Tony
SUPREMA Concepts Ltd, a leading
fit-out specialist in dental
and hospital applications, has
responded to the growing use
of solid surface in healthcare
environments by investing in an
ELKOM thermoforming station
from CD (UK).
Suprema’s manufacturing site is
based in Edington, near Bridg -
water, Somerset, with a well
equipped 12,000 ft 2 facility, from
which it designs, manufactures
and installs complete re-fit
schemes. Its level of expertise includes
a design section with Solidworks
3D design capability, a
dedicated panel production workshop,
cabinet making shop and a
designated Corian® solid surface
fabrication unit.
Recent prestigious projects include:
Cardiff Dental Hospital,
where the company undertook
the complete re-fit of 34 open bay
work stations at the oral health
unit, and Leeds Dental Institute,
which involved four phases spread
over 14 months, incorporating 106
dental chair positions, four reception
areas and cabinetry in many
other rooms.
The ELKOM Multitherm-Basic
provides Suprema with efficient
forming and shaping of Corian®, as
well as acrylics and thermo -
plastics. It has a vacuum table size
of 3,800 mm x 1,300 mm and combines
a heating platen and vacuum
bed in a single space-saving
unit. the heating chamber, housed
underneath the vacuum table, has
a top and bottom heating platen.
The bottom platen is easily withdrawn
to allow loading and unloading
of material and within a
few minutes the heated, pliable
material is placed on its jig and
vacuum is applied.
Operations manager, Alan Voysey,
says: “A major appeal of Corian®
in hygienic applications is its seamless
nature, which means it does
not harbour bacteria. Also, wash
basins can be joined to worktops
with no gaps and seamless upstands
can be formed. With this
machine we can make curves, stepups
or step-downs: in fact, the design
options are almost limitless.”
The machine was supplied by
ELKOM’s UK distributor, CD (UK)

the machinery division, and has a
wealth of experience with vacuum
