Express Glass Services
Optical Glass • Semi-Finished Optical Products • Samples • Prototypes • Small Runs
Docter Optics Express – A g ood way to get the job done!
Optical processes, systems and equipment
are rapidly becoming the drivers of the future
in many areas of science and technology.
Actually that should come as no surprise! After all, today’s optical
industry ranks among the world’s foremost sources of leading-edge
research, patents and new products.
The complex processes involved in development call for an exceptional
level of creative thinking, technological expertise and commitment to
quality. Every new project is truly unique. But, no matter what the
project, the same benchmark applies – economy.
And that explains why anyone who develops or uses optical
components or systems is faced with the same question: “Make
or buy?” That means you have to decide whether it makes
economic sense to produce in house or whether it would be
more economical to turn production over to a reliable supplier.
When it comes to semi-finished optical products, samples, proto-
types and short runs, in-house production is seldom advisable. In
fact, it may even wind up interfering with other processes and
operations. That’s why so many companies throughout the world
take advantage of the resources, experience and expertise of
DOCTER © OPTICS Express Glass Services.
Custom Express Services for the Optical industry
DOCTER OPTICS Express Glass Services –
A world first.
Express Glass Services gives you a unique combination of benefits. We can supply customers
worldwide with semi-finished or processed optical components (polished, coated) with
impressively short lead times. These services include cutting, milling, drilling and coating.
Products include blanks, spheres, aspheres, mirrors, filter substrates, zero-expansion materials
and wafers — in quantities ranging from one or two samples to small runs. And, not only that,
we have built up and maintain an extensive inventory of optical glass, which means we can
deliver specialty items, colored glasses and hard-to-find qualities.
When it comes down to the bottom line, that lets our customers cut costs. For example they
can plan their projects to avoid costly, inefficient in-house production from the very beginning.
With Docter © Optics Express Glass Services, you can count on speed, timely delivery and
exceptional precision.
Quality on demand!
That’s our business!
It goes without saying that we use the most advanced technology available. In fact, many of
our high-precision machines feature modifications that we have developed ourselves, which
means much of our technology is available nowhere else in the world.
On the other hand, technology isn’t everything. The specific characteristics of
the different types of glass we use require exceptional experience in order to
permit processing in the first place. And that explains why customers of
Docter © Optics Express Glass Services worldwide appreciate the in-depth
expertise, technical skills and hands-on experience of our specialized personnel.
And our customers equally appreciate our customer-driven commitment, especially when it
comes to urgent orders. Often all it takes is a sketch, a brief phone call or an e-mail, and we
can have a precise sample on the way the next day.
This successful combination of speed, quality and economy is the reason
why so many of the world’s leading manufacturers of optical equipment
and systems turn to DOCTER © OPTICS Express Glass Services to meet
their optical production needs.
Grinding/Polishing
We can grind and polish optical glass components
with diameters of up to 800 mm. Special technology
makes it possible to process long, thin rods (up to
1500 x approx. 200 mm) for specific applications like
machine-tools, for example. Of course, we also final
polish lenses, filters, prisms …
Milling/Drilling
Band/Wire/Jet/Laser Cutting
Our milling service makes it possible to save
enormous amounts of time when it comes to the
production of lenses. With our high-precision CNC
milling centers, we can deliver virtually any desired
milled shape in very little time. Of course, our services
include drilling, for example, core drilling to produce
lenses and other components of optical glass.
Advanced band and wire-saw machines and laser
and Jet-cutting systems make it possible to produce
high-precision blanks in the form of bars, blocks,
slices, rods and sheet of optical glass. We can also
process overdimensioned stock measuring up to 500
x 500 mm, and we offer special material-saving cut-
ting techniques for semi-finished wafer products.
Coating
Using the most appropriate technique for the specific
application, we can coat a wide range of different
glass substrates for virtually any spectral range, for
example, polarization und interference filters, mirrors
(laser, cold light), UV, IR and visible light.
An Overview of Our Services
Contract and Toll Manufacturing
We can produce semi-finished products, components
or subassemblies according to your specifications.
You can choose the material from our extensive glass
inventory or have us process optical glass that you
supply.
Development/Design
When it comes to the development of new components
or systems, you can take advantage of the
experience and expertise of our engineers and
designers. We design custom solutions for a wide
range of applications, for example, lenses, prisms,
filters, wafers…
Inventory Depth/Procurement
Marketing Partnership
We stock a large inventory of bars, blocks, rods and
gobs in a wide range of different glass qualities, shapes
and weights. Our excellent contacts with natio-
nal and international glass manufactures and dealers
give us access to glass qualities that are very rare,
scarce or no longer in production.
