Setting the scene
Every year, over 6,500 children under five visit
hospital accident and emergency departments
as a result of scalds from kettles and hot drinks.
Almost nine out of ten serious
scalds from hot drinks involve
children under five.
The skin of a baby or toddler
is much thinner than an
adult’s so liquids scald their
skin at lower temperatures.
About the video

About the video pack
The video pack includes:
a 9 minute video with natural
stop points throughout so that
you can combine a showing of
the video with discussion
and/or demonstration
a pack of 15 support cards
containing:
● background information on hot
drink scalds including why young
children are a high-risk group,
how hot is too hot?, how do scald
accidents typically happen?
● ideas for discussion groups
● easy, step-by-step,
demonstrations to enhance
parent and carer sessions
● ideas for further activities
a sample bright, colourful,
easy-to-read single sheet ‘fancy
a cuppa?’ leaflet with key safety
messages and basic first aid as
shown on the video. You can give
it out at the end of sessions, leave it
in clinic waiting rooms or hand it to
parents and carers at home.
How can the pack
help me in my work?
The pack is designed to provide
practitioners with a flexible resource
that can be used:
in a wide range of educational
or discussion groups using
the comprehensive support
materials provided
as an information video that
can be played in waiting rooms
and other settings (an hour-long,
loop format tape is also available)
for training those working
in childcare.

Conditions of sale

value is incorrectly calculated, you will be sent the
goods requested and invoiced for the correct amount.
On any order form sent with prepayment, if the order
value is incorrectly calculated, you will be sent goods
to the value of the payment received. In the case of
non-delivery, goods lost in transit can only be replaced
if you notify us within 30 days of placing your order.
