Your course grade will be determined as follows:<br />
5 Exams 16% each<br />
Homework 20%<br />

Exams: Calculators, but not computers or cell phones, may be used during the exams if desired.<br />
Each exam will be a mix of problem types (multiple choice, true-false, matching). Dates for the<br />
exams will be determined as the course progresses. The exams will cover the course as follows:<br />
Exam #1: Chapters 1-6<br />
Exam #2: Chapters 7-11<br />
Exam #3: Chapters 12-16<br />
Exam #4: Chapters 17-21a<br />
Final Exam: Chapters 21b-22<br />
Note that the Final Exam is not comprehensive.<br />
Homework: There will be 12 homework assignments worth 10 points each spaced throughout<br />
the semester (120 total points). The questions will be taken from the class notes. Homework<br />
due dates will be listed on each assignment. The assignment is due at the end of class on the due<br />
date listed on the homework sheets I will pass out. Assignments reaching me after class will lose<br />
1 point for each class date the assignment is late.<br />
Attendance: Although attendance is not directly used in the determination of your grade, I will<br />
take it at the start of each class in accordance with <strong>Kent</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> policy. Common<br />
courtesy requires you to inform me of any planned absences from exams. Makeup exams and inclass<br />
assignments will be given at my discretion based upon the reason for the absence.<br />
Electronic Devices: The only electronic devices approved for use in class are calculators and<br />
laptops. Cell phones, Ipods, MP3 players, etc. are not to be used in class. If you absolutely must<br />
have your cell phone on, make sure it’s in vibrate mode and that you leave the room quietly and<br />
quickly to answer it. This will be tolerated for emergencies only, not to gab with your friends! I<br />
reserve the right to change these policies as the situation warrants.<br />
Registration Requirement: The official registration deadline for this course is September 11,<br />
2011. <strong>University</strong> policy requires all students to be officially registered in each class they are<br />
attending. Students who are not officially registered for a course by published deadlines should<br />
not be attending classes and will not receive credit or a grade for the course. Each student must<br />
confirm enrollment by checking his/her class sch<strong>edu</strong>le (using Student Tools in FlashFast) prior<br />
to the deadline indicated. Registration errors must be corrected prior to the deadline.<br />
