Exams: Calculators, but not computers or cell phones, may be used during the exams if desired.
Each exam will be a mix of problem types (multiple choice, true-false, matching). Dates for the
exams will be determined as the course progresses. The exams will cover the course as follows:
Exam #1: Chapters 1-6
Exam #2: Chapters 7-11
Exam #3: Chapters 12-16
Exam #4: Chapters 17-21a
Final Exam: Chapters 21b-22
Note that the Final Exam is not comprehensive.
Homework: There will be 12 homework assignments worth 10 points each spaced throughout
the semester (120 total points). The questions will be taken from the class notes. Homework
due dates will be listed on each assignment. The assignment is due at the end of class on the due
date listed on the homework sheets I will pass out. Assignments reaching me after class will lose
1 point for each class date the assignment is late.
Attendance: Although attendance is not directly used in the determination of your grade, I will
take it at the start of each class in accordance with Kent State University policy. Common
courtesy requires you to inform me of any planned absences from exams. Makeup exams and inclass
assignments will be given at my discretion based upon the reason for the absence.
Electronic Devices: The only electronic devices approved for use in class are calculators and
laptops. Cell phones, Ipods, MP3 players, etc. are not to be used in class. If you absolutely must
have your cell phone on, make sure it’s in vibrate mode and that you leave the room quietly and
quickly to answer it. This will be tolerated for emergencies only, not to gab with your friends! I
reserve the right to change these policies as the situation warrants.
Registration Requirement: The official registration deadline for this course is September 11,
2011. University policy requires all students to be officially registered in each class they are
attending. Students who are not officially registered for a course by published deadlines should
not be attending classes and will not receive credit or a grade for the course. Each student must
confirm enrollment by checking his/her class schedule (using Student Tools in FlashFast) prior
to the deadline indicated. Registration errors must be corrected prior to the deadline.
Notice to Students with Disabilities: Kent State University recognizes its responsibility for
creating an institutional climate in which students with disabilities can succeed. In accordance
with University Policy, if you have a documented disability, you may request accommodations to
obtain equal access and to promote your learning in this class. Please contact Robert Brindley,
Coordinator, Academic Services and Career Planning, in room A104 or at 330-339-3391
ext.47433. After your eligibility for accommodations has been determined, you will be given a
letter which, when presented to an instructor, will help that instructor know how best to assist
you.
