Skills areas
There are 4 skill areas in Maths which are
assessed:
• Number
• Algebra
• Statistics and probability
• Geometry and measures

Assessment
• The Scheme of Learning consists of
different units each covering topics within
the key skills.
• At the end of each unit pupils are given a
short test.
• At the back of their books is a table
showing the level from the test and how
confident they felt with the topic.

What can I do to help?
• Use the table in the back of their book to see the
areas they are struggling with.
• Discuss what they are learning and ask
questions about it.
• Read their homework through and ask questions
about it.
• Talk about and use maths in everyday life,
money, time etc.
• Encourage them to use Mymaths to help revise
a topic that has already been covered or to help
reinforce a topic they are struggling with.
• Use mathswatch on the VLE.
