Amy’s background includes working with
various construction companies in the
capacity of Estimator, Project Manager and
Project Engineer. She has a Bachelor of
Science Civil Engineering.
Continuous Improvement – The Estimating Process

The revised Estimating Process was presented at the Management Forum on Tuesday, December 8, 2009
by Cindy Schaedig and Amy Marquardt from Work Management. The slide presentation highlighted the
following external and internal improvements to the estimating process.
Internal Improvements
• Standardized estimating process
• Standardized documentation
• Track estimates by estimate type (Budget, Fixed Price or Time and Material)
• Accurate and timely billing = REVENUE
Customer Improvements
• Customers receive estimates in a standardized format
• They are able to access current estimate information in FMS
• Enables consistent communications with Plant Operations
• Accurate and timely billing
To ensure that everyone has access to the revised process and forms, an Estimating section has been
added to the Supervisors Toolbox. (http://www.plant.bf.umich.edu/workcontrol/toolbox.php)
The Estimating section includes:
1. Estimating Process Flow Chart
2. Estimate Types/Turnaround Times
3. Estimate Spreadsheet
4. Instructions for adding related documents
5. Instructions for changing a phase status
6. Sample Customer Reply Form
