Welcome Elaine Pellow, Chair of the Board Itʼs been a busy summer – what with the Jubilee and then the Olympics – and PCH staged its own ʻOlympicsʼ at its summer festival in August. Hundreds of you turned out for the event at Woodview Learning Complex and it was a successful and enjoyable day. It gave staff a chance to explain the services on offer from PCH and gave residents a chance to tell staff what you like about us – and how you think we can improve. You can read all about it – and see the photos on pages 8 and 9. One family tell us how their life has changed thanks to moving to a bigger home. Read their story on page 3. Weʼre always keen to tell you how our staff work to serve you better. On page 10, Adam Harding gets an insight into the role of the new rangers as he spends a day with one of them. And on page 15, staff in our repairs contact centre tell us about the difference they make. On a sad note, I was very upset to hear of the death of Peter Ebsworth, the first Chair of PCH. He was very involved with the stock transfer and guided us through the first couple of years. Although he stood down as Chair last year, he remained an active board member. Space to spread out after 16 years The conversion of two flats into a fivebedroom house has meant a family of six can finally live in comfort – 16 years after they first joined the housing register. Therese and Joseph Coutts and their four children – ranging in age from 7 to 18 years old – have moved into a newly-converted home in Honicknowle. The property was previously two separate flats but we decided to convert them into a family home, which are in high demand around Plymouth. The family were previously living in a three-bed flat without any outdoor space – they now have use of a garden. Therese said: “We were living in each otherʼs pockets before. We couldnʼt believe it when we found out weʼd got the house. Weʼd bid on a few and got turned down. “We didnʼt think weʼd stand a chance of getting this one. Itʼs lovely round here. I donʼt hear the kids anymore – theyʼve all got their own space. There are no arguments!” This is the first such conversion we have done – with more planned in the coming months. Tim Phillips, Housing Choices Manager for PCH, said: “This is part of PCHʼs response to helping tenants who are overcrowded. Taking action like this can really meet the needs of larger families. “Itʼs all part of our ambitious programme to convert a number of flats into larger homes over the next 12 months.
