4.4.7 Mäori Responsiveness<br />
Participation of Mäori in the delivery of <strong>Police</strong> services is carried out at a governance level<br />
through the District Commander’s Mäori Advisory Group. A District Iwi Liaison Coordinator<br />
and four Iwi Liaison officers assist in the implementation of the District’s Responsiveness<br />
to Mäori strategies. Each policing area also has its own Iwi Advisory Working group.<br />
4.4.8 Ethnic Responsiveness – Pacific Island, Asian and <strong>New</strong> Immigrant<br />
Communities<br />
The Waikato District ensures smaller ethnic communities have a voice through a<br />
consultative approach that encourages two-way engagement and liaison. This process is<br />
facilitated by an Ethnic Liaison Officer.<br />
4.4.9 Intelligence Analysis<br />
A number of sworn and non-sworn staff provides Intelligence services at each of the three<br />
Area headquarters and at DHQ. Intelligence plays a key role in interpreting the criminal<br />
environment and provides proactive actions targeting 'hot' offenders, 'hot' victims and 'hot'<br />
locations, times and commodities.<br />
4.4.10 Road Policing<br />
The Serious Crash Unit, Speed Cameras team, two Traffic Alcohol Group (TAG) sections<br />
and three District Highway Patrol sections operate out of the District Highway Patrol base<br />
in Hamilton. Another TAG section is being established as a result of the 3rd tranche of<br />
GNI staff. There are also Area-based Strategic Traffic Units (STU).<br />
4.4.11 Custodial Services<br />
The Waikato <strong>Police</strong> District provides support to the District Courts by transporting<br />
prisoners to each Court and providing security whilst Courts are in session.<br />
4.4.12 Other<br />
The Waikato <strong>Police</strong> District also provides a range of other services including:<br />
• Airport security<br />
• Liquor licensing and vetting<br />
• Firearms licensing<br />
• Coronial services<br />
• Forensic services<br />
The Waikato District is also supported by <strong>Police</strong> National Headquarters through local<br />
representation of the following service centres<br />
• Training Service Centre (TSC)<br />
• Information & Communications Technology (ICT)<br />
• Human Resources (HR)<br />
• <strong>Police</strong> Prosecution Service (PPS)<br />
• Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit (CVIU)<br />
