communities across the District.<br />

with a view to building positive relationships<br />

<strong>and</strong> to facilitating the identification <strong>and</strong><br />

resolution of police related issues.<br />

To support local implementation of the<br />

<strong>Adopt</strong>-a-Cop (AAC) program.<br />

Provide advice <strong>and</strong> support to officers in<br />

charge of stations <strong>and</strong> districts in the<br />

performance of their roles <strong>and</strong><br />

responsibilities, as needed.<br />

Chair annual meetings with officers in charge of stations, or more frequently as<br />

desired.<br />

Ensure officers in charge of stations perform the below-listed roles <strong>and</strong><br />

responsibilities.<br />

Host <strong>and</strong> chair annual meetings with principals <strong>and</strong> other relevant<br />

stakeholders.<br />

Attend annual meetings* with the officer in charge of the district (<strong>and</strong> other<br />

OICs of stations). (*or more frequently as desired by the OIC, district).<br />

Engage in informal consultation with schools, as necessary.<br />

Select <strong>and</strong> appoint an AAC for every school wishing to participate in the<br />

program (organisational capacity permitting).<br />

Support the AAC program by ensuring the appropriate rostering, supervision<br />

<strong>and</strong> performance management of AACs within the Division. Ensure AACs<br />

attend the relevant training <strong>and</strong> receive the necessary resource materials (as<br />

provided by the Community Safety <strong>and</strong> Crime Prevention Branch [CSCPB]).<br />

Attend meetings with school principals <strong>and</strong>/or officers in charge of stations,<br />

when required.<br />

Provide relevant information, advice <strong>and</strong> support to officers in charge of<br />

districts <strong>and</strong> stations, as required.


Station Community Crime<br />

Reduction Officers<br />

<strong>Adopt</strong>-a-Cops<br />

To assist the officer in charge of the station<br />

in the performance of their roles <strong>and</strong><br />

responsibilities.<br />

To assist the officer in charge of the station<br />

<strong>and</strong> the school principal in the performance<br />

of their roles <strong>and</strong> responsibilities.<br />

Support local implementation of the AAC<br />

program.<br />

Assist the officer in charge of the station in the performance of their above- listed<br />

roles <strong>and</strong> responsibilities, as delegated.<br />

Assist in conveying relevant information <strong>and</strong> advice between the officer in charge of<br />

the station <strong>and</strong> the school principal, as needed.<br />

Perform the roles <strong>and</strong> responsibilities of an AAC, as outlined below:<br />

Plan AAC visits in conjunction with the school principal (or other relevant school<br />

representative);<br />

Attend the school regularly as rostered <strong>and</strong> planned;<br />

Update the Crime Prevention Database with AAC activities conducted;<br />

Advise the officer in charge of the relevant station* of any changes to AAC arrangements;<br />

Seek information or advice from the respective DCPC as needed; <strong>and</strong><br />

Resolve any local issues in conjunction with the officer in charge of the relevant station*.<br />

Where these issues are unable to be resolved with the officer in charge, AACs are<br />

encouraged to seek advice from the respective DCPC.<br />

AACs perform a range of functions including, but not limited to:<br />

(i) Delivering classroom presentations in partnership with teachers. Note: The <strong>Adopt</strong>-a-<br />

Cop is not to be used or viewed as a teacher but as a resource with specialised<br />

knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills which may be used in the school.<br />

(ii) Delivering presentations to parents, carers, teachers <strong>and</strong> other school staff;<br />

(iii) Attending key school events, such as fetes, swimming carnivals <strong>and</strong>/or sports days;<br />

(iv) Addressing school parades;<br />

(v) Coordinating <strong>QPS</strong> events <strong>and</strong> <strong>QPS</strong> representation at relevant events, e.g. under 8s<br />

day;<br />

(vi) Attending graduations <strong>and</strong>/or presentation nights;<br />

(vii) Conducting informal “drop in” visits, particularly during break times;<br />

(viii) Attending meetings, such as Parents <strong>and</strong> Citizens <strong>and</strong>/or Parents <strong>and</strong> Friends<br />

meetings; <strong>and</strong><br />

(ix) Attending school excursions <strong>and</strong>/or camps (subject to gaining necessary prior<br />

approvals).<br />

<strong>Adopt</strong>-a-PLOs may also provide an additional role to promote cultural awareness <strong>and</strong><br />

celebrate cultural diversity within the school community.<br />

*Where officer in charge of the relevant station is referred to, reference is made to the officer<br />

in charge of the division in which the school is located.

Community Safety <strong>and</strong> Crime<br />

Prevention Branch<br />

Support the statewide implementation of<br />

the AAS <strong>and</strong> AAC programs.<br />

Develop, <strong>and</strong> maintain, policy <strong>and</strong> guidelines to guide the implementation of the<br />

AAS program.<br />

Provide officers in charge of stations with a list of schools within each division.<br />

Provide information, advice <strong>and</strong> support to regional personnel in the performance of<br />

their roles <strong>and</strong> responsibilities, as needed.<br />

Maintain communication with education sectors to provide <strong>and</strong> receive information,<br />

advice <strong>and</strong> support, as required, <strong>and</strong> to address issues as they arise.<br />

Develop st<strong>and</strong>ardised AAC training <strong>and</strong> a framework to facilitate its statewide<br />

delivery.<br />

Develop <strong>and</strong> maintain AAC classroom resources for Prep – Year 12.<br />

Develop <strong>and</strong> distribute AAC educational resources.<br />

Maintain the AAC Database.<br />

Maintain up-to-date AAS <strong>and</strong> AAC information on the intranet <strong>and</strong> internet.<br />

Coordinate the annual AAC awards program.<br />

Arrange for an independent evaluation of the AAS program.
