1. Thank you for helping make 2011 a good year for all of us. We have
appreciated your participation in our auctions. This year we enjoyed an
excellent balance of four general auctions, plus concept sales devoted to
“The World at War”, “Pacific Islands” and the Australian Colonies / States.
In addition, we were delighted to present to you important “name sales” of
Mark Benvie’s New Zealand Chalon Period postal history and Len
Colgan’s Siam/Thailand. In addition to those nine public auctions, we
conducted two very popular on-line sales of philatelic literature.
Most recently, our “Australian Colonies/States” sale on 23 rd September
turned out to be a great success. Despite a few soft areas, overall the
auction was very well supported, with 82.6% of the 1100 lots finding new
homes. Very fine Classic stamps and South Australian Departmentals
continue to gather strong heads of steam. The ground-breaking collections
of Tasmanian and Western Australian revenues set new market levels. It
was very pleasing to see Victoria’s Ultra-High Values selling in all directions.
Once again we demonstrated that when a fine collection of long untested
material happens along, the buyers will materialise.
2. It is often the case that auction catalogues really are the best available
references on particular subjects. One of our aims in preparing the best
collections for sale is, therefore, for the catalogues to be seen as reference
works of value. We believe we have a responsibility to the market as a
whole, and to our vendors in particular, to provide as much information
about the material and as many images as possible to create catalogues
that fully justify being in the libraries of serious philatelists. It is thus most
gratifying when dealers and collectors express their opinions that our
catalogues are “must haves” for their bookshelves.
Will yours be the next collection to be accorded what we call “The Prestige
Difference”?
3. The next in our on-going series of special sales will be devoted to a quite
remarkable property, the extensive collection of “Royal Navy
Concessional Rates 1795-1913” formed by distinguished New Zealand
philatelist Gerald Ellott, RDP. You will often see soldiers’ letters at auction,
but sailors’ letters are a very different proposition. They are as scarce as
hens’ teeth. I can’t wait to get my teeth into this fascinating material. If you
haven’t yet requested a copy of the catalogue, please do so
immediately. It will be a “keeper”, and he print-run will be strictly limited.
4. We are now planning our programme for 2012 so if you have been
thinking about hanging up your tweezers or heading in a different direction I
would welcome your enquiries about how Prestige Philately can assist you.
We are particularly keen to talk with clients who wish to take advantage of
our top-end “Signature Series” sales for collections of distinction. There is
no better way for your collecting achievements to be recognised than in a
sumptuous hardbound full colour catalogue in which all the illustrations are
placed within the text, supported by a permanent stand-alone website
bearing your name.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
