Welcome to Providence!
I extend my warmest greetings to you, as you engage with
Providence.
Providence is a Christian academic community.
We are a community. That means we carry out our work
together. We each have different roles to play: students,
support staff, administration, and faculty. Nevertheless,
we do our work together. We work together, we eat
together, we play together, and we live together. We are a
community.
The word “academic” defines our life for this time that we
are together. We are a community whose purpose is the
furtherance of education and training. Together we are in
pursuit of the knowledge, skills, and character necessary
for life. Our work extends beyond the classroom. It extends
to the library, to the student life centre, to faculty offices,
to residence halls, to outdoor spaces, and even off campus in areas of service and
recreation.
Finally, the word “Christian” defines how and why we do our work. We have come together
as an academic community to make a difference for Christ. The Lord of the universe is
our saviour, our guide, and our friend. His Spirit dwells among us to bring us to maturity in
Him.
This year I invite you to experience the great joy of being part of a Christian academic
community.
Providence Covenants
Introduction
Providence is a voluntary community in which employees and the Board agree
to a Covenant of Faith and in which students, employees and the Board agree to
live by a Covenant of Community Life. These two covenants follow.
Covenant of Faith
Providence University College and Seminary holds and teaches the essential
doctrines of the Christian faith embraced by evangelicals.
The Covenant of Faith, as approved by the board in November 2008, is as
follows:
We believe the revelation given by God in Christian Scripture.
We embrace the faith set forth in it as summarized in the historic
creeds of the Church. We are rooted in the Protestant evangelical
tradition and celebrate its international and ecumenical diversity.
