What is Christ-Centred
University Education?
FACULTY Christ-centered university
education begins with the Faculty.
Professors integrate their work in
media and communication, history,
philosophy, sociology, microbiology,
economics, etc, with their Christian
faith.
CURRICULUM We want students
to understand that Jesus Christ
has authority over every academic
discipline. Our academic programs
are taught to the highest professional
standards of each discipline. Only in
this way can students meaningfully
engage faith and learning.
COMMUNITY In addition to
academic work, we seek to establish
Christ-centered community living.
Worship, service, recreation,
athletics, and dorm life are the
foundation of vibrant spiritual
development and faith formation
in our community.
STUDENTS Our goal is to produce
graduates who can enter society
fully understanding their spiritgiven
roles as Christ’s disciples,
challenging the world in terms
justice and morality, and living lives
that are characterized by excellence,
expertise, discipline in work and
vocation, and doing so consistently
in a Christ-centred manner.
I initially chose Providence because one of my parents
attended Providence. The reason I stayed at Providence
was that I appreciated its high level of academics. Attending
Providence helped me become more open-minded. I teach
Combining the Humanities and Social
Sciences, the Interdisciplinary Arts are at
the core of classic higher education. This
major is comprised of two of the following
three concentrations: Humanities, Social
Sciences or Mathematics. The subject
matter is people – all human thoughts
and actions in life, all human experiences
and expressions of life. In the Humanities,
study people through History, Literature,
Philosophy, Music and Theatre. The
Social scientific method of studying
people is empirical, combining both
logic and systematic observation which
includes Anthropology, Psychology and
Sociology.
The Social Sciences include Anthropology,
the scientific study of people in the
context of their whole culture and history;
Psychology, the scientific study of what
happens with the individual person,
mental and emotional; and Sociology, the
scientific study of what happens between
two or more people. Social Sciences seek
to understand people, culture, and society,
both in terms of the human condition in
which they live and the human experience
of life. Students will become aware of
sciences, and learn to think analytically,
I chose Providence because it offered a Christian perspective.
The courses I took were extremely useful. Without my
knowledge of society, social patterns, gender socialization,
social controls, the distribution of wealth, racial histories I
would not have had a framework for the issues I deal with
Music is a way of reaching to our deepest
beliefs and feelings and giving them our
highest expression - those meaningful
thoughts for which words alone may
not be enough. This program focuses on
academic courses in music theory and
history, the formation of musicianship,
the development of performance skills
on particular instruments or voice, and
the ability to perform in ensembles at a
high level of excellence. Developing skills
in these areas will enable you to excel at
performance or teaching, go on to conduct
musical ensembles and choirs or pursue
further music studies.
I wanted a school with a great arts program but also a school
that would challenge my beliefs and make me think outside
the box. A place that would help me transition from my
parent’s beliefs to my own. Providence was a perfect fit.
