of private well owners in completing<br />

<strong>Barrington</strong> Area Council of Governments<br />
(BACOG). Public water supplies<br />
are regulated by the state, but<br />
homeowners with private wells are<br />
responsible for maintaining their own<br />
drinking water, well heads, and septic<br />
systems. Checking water for bacteria<br />
and nitrates once a year is an easy<br />
way to ensure safe conditions. BACOG<br />
partners with the Lake County Health<br />
Department to bring residents convenient<br />
access to water testing every six<br />
months. This year, pick up your test kits<br />
at any BACOG village or township hall<br />
for $10 between Monday, March 7 and<br />
Thursday, March 10. Return your water<br />
sample to <strong>Barrington</strong> High School on<br />
Monday, March 14 or Wednesday, March<br />
16. Participants who sign up for annual<br />
notifications to re-test receive a well<br />
and septic guide, and may attend a presentation<br />
on March 14 at 6 p.m. to learn<br />
