GRADUATE SHORTLISTED
FOR FILM MAKING PRIZE
Former Media Production student,
Steven Braxton, who graduated in
2005, was recently shortlisted for an
award by Scottish Screen, the
organisation which promotes
Scotland as a production centre for
world movie making.
The film, entitled ‘Fast’, was shortlisted
with two others in the Music Video
category of the Scottish Students on
Screen Awards 2006, held in Glasgow
in March. Steven’s film was shown along
with entries from students of Glasgow
School of Art and the Royal Scottish
Academy of Music and Drama
(the winner).
“The event was a fantastic platform for
me to showcase what I learned at
Queen Margaret,” said Steven. “‘Fast’
was the first film where I took charge of
every stage - directing, editing and
producing - so I was really pleased to
have been in the top three. It was a
good learning curve for me.”
BRYAN LOWE
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Since graduating in 2005, former
acting student, Bryan Lowe, has
graced our television screens in some
well known dramas and has also
starred alongside some big names in
the business.
Bryan has had small parts on television’s
‘Sea of Souls’, ‘Waking the Dead’ with
Trevor Eve, ‘Rebus’ with Ken Stott and
recently appeared in ‘See No Evil’, the
story about the moors murders. He also
used his Fife roots - while trying not to
let Fifers become typecast - to play a
Fife-born murderer with Brian Cox in
McLevy, the Radio 4 historical detective
series. However, Bryan’s latest role
is taking him back to his first love -
the stage.
“I’ve been extremely lucky to have
bagged a good few cracking jobs and
have had the opportunity to work with
some amazing people,” said Bryan.
“However, it was the stage that initially
got me into acting and it’s been great to
get back to it.”
with the irrepressible Una Maclean and
Lynn Ferguson, who were quite simply
legends and comedy geniuses.”
Discussing his Queen Margaret days,
Bryan said: “One of the biggest and
best experiences of my college days
was in 2004 when I was involved in the
Queen Margaret co-production of a new
work, ‘Beach’, with Boilerhouse, the
award-winning Scottish touring theatre
company.
“I am quite a big lad and have always
had a bit of a thing about doing physical
theatre and that sort of movement work.
Working with Boilerhouse really helped
me get rid of that. I lost a lot of
my inhibitions.”
QM Graduate, Steven Braxton
Bryan played the younger boyfriend of
Lynn Ferguson in Melody, a new play by
Douglas Maxwell which was shown at
the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.
Melody also starred Una McLean, an
honorary graduate of Queen Margaret.
“I loved every single minute of being on
the Traverse and Tron stages in Melody
