4.1.5. has been registered and licensed in good standing
in Saskatchewan within the three years preceding the
date of application for reinstatement; or
4.1.6. has held a licence to practise in good standing in
another province or territory of Canada or other country,
within the three years preceding the date of application for
a licence; or
4.1.7. has successfully completed an education program
or re-entry program in dental assisting approved by the
council within three years preceding the date of application
for a licence; and
4.1.8. has met the professional development
requirements prescribed in Section 11, if already a member;
4.1.9. has completed the prescribed application forms
and pays the fees set by the council; and
4.1.10. provides references as required by the council.
4.2. The council may require members graduating prior to
December 31, 1997 who apply for a restricted practising
licence after January 1, 1998 to pay the prescribed fee for
recognition of the National Dental Assisting Examining Board
certificate, if the member has not already received the
certificate.
4.3. Restricted Practising membership entitles a person to
the following privileges:
4.3.1. to receive a restricted licence to practise dental
assisting;
4.3.2. to receive professional liability protection;
4.3.3. to vote and hold office at the district and provincial
levels;
4.3.4. to have voice and vote at the annual and special
meetings of the association;
4.3.5. to be appointed to committees at the district and
provincial levels;
4.3.6. to use all services provided by the association;
4.3.7. to receive a copy of association documents
designed for distribution to restricted practising members;
4.3.8. to receive all publications of the association; and
4.3.9. to exercise all privileges of membership in
affiliated national and international associations.
4.4. To maintain eligibility for renewal of licensure as a
restricted practising member, a dental assistant must:
4.4.1. complete the renewal forms and submit fees as
prescribed by the council;
4.4.2. acquire ten (10) professional development credits
on an annual basis according to association policy; and
4.4.3. notify the business office of all changes in name
and mailing address.
4.5. Restricted practising membership carries obligations
including but not limited to the following:
4.5.1. to adhere to terms and restrictions specified to
that licence;
4.5.2. to adhere to Section 15; the association’s code of
ethics and Section 16; standards of practise; and
4.5.3. to use established dental assistant “competency
list” description as a guide for the practice of dental
assisting.
4.6. A change of status from restricted practising licence to
full practising licence may be acquired through:
4.6.1. providing evidence of successful completion of an
examination or a training program approved by the council;
and
4.6.2. completion of the required forms and payment of
the fees as prescribed by the council.
5. Listing as a Non-practising Member
5.1. Non-practising membership in the association shall be
limited to the person who:
5.1.1. has been registered as a member in accordance
with Section 1;
5.1.2. has held a practising licence and was in good
standing when last licenced with the association;
5.1.3. does not intend to practise dental assisting in
Saskatchewan;
5.1.4. is granted upon completion of the prescribed
application form and payment of the fees set by the
council.
5.2. Non-practising membership entitles a person to the
following privileges:
5.2.1. to vote and hold office at the district and provincial
levels;
5.2.2. to have voice and vote at the annual and special
meetings of the association;
5.2.3. to be appointed to committees at the district and
provincial levels;
5.2.4. to use all services provided by the association;
5.2.5. to receive all publications of the association; and
5.2.6. to exercise all privileges of membership in
affiliated national and international associations.
5.3. Persons who are licenced as non-practising members
may not practice or hold themselves out as being entitled to
practice dental assisting.
5.4. A non-practicing member seeking a full or restricted
practising license, who has not practiced for less than five
continuous years prior to applying for a license shall provide
proof of ten (10) professional development credit hours
satisfactory to the council acquired during the twelve month
period immediately preceding the filing of application for
change of status.
5.5. A non-practicing member seeking a full or restricted
practising license, who has not practiced for more than five
continuous years prior to applying for a license shall be
required to complete retraining programs as prescribed by the
council.
5.6. A non-practising member seeking a full or restricted
license during the membership year shall be required to pay
the fee discrepancy and a change of status fee.
6. Listing as an Honorary Life Member
6.1. Honorary life membership in the association may be:
6.1.1. conferred on any member meeting the
qualifications of Section 1, who has provided meritorious
service to the association and has made an outstanding
contribution to the association;
6.1.2. granted through a majority vote of the council of
the association; and
6.1.3. conferred on a member licenced as a full
practising, restricted practising, or non-practising member,
according to their annual application.
6.2. Honorary Life membership entitles a person to the
following privileges:
6.2.1. to receive a certificate of honorary life membership
and an annual membership card; and
6.2.2. to be exempt from the payment of all dues to the
association.
