The <strong>QVMAG</strong> Curators will be presenting a series of free talks, each lasting 30 minutes, on Thursday lunchtimes. They will focus on current<br />
exhibitions: Colonial Impressions of the Norfolk Plains <strong>and</strong> Into the Wild: Wilderness photography in Tasmania. The program is as follows:<br />

Presented by Damien Quilliam, Curator, Contemporary Australian <strong>Art</strong><br />

Presented by Jon Addison, Curator, History<br />
Highlighting the artistic talent of key Tasmanian wilderness<br />
photographers including Allport, Spurling, Beattie, Smithies,<br />
Truchanas, Dombrovskis, Engl<strong>and</strong>, Blakers, Stephenson, <strong>and</strong> Walch,<br />
the exhibition charts the development of wilderness photography<br />
from its earliest days to the present <strong>and</strong> explores the impact that<br />
this type of photography has had on Tasmania.<br />

Colonial Impressions of the Norfolk Plains<br />

Presented by Yvonne Adkins, Curator, 19th century Australian <strong>Art</strong><br />
Settlers <strong>and</strong> convicts arrived from Norfolk Isl<strong>and</strong> in 1813 to live in<br />
the area of Tasmania that became known as the Norfolk Plains.<br />
Displayed within the <strong>QVMAG</strong> Colonial <strong>Gallery</strong> (9) are paintings<br />
<strong>and</strong> drawings depicting images of the rural scenery of the<br />
Norfolk Plains.<br />
The works by artists including Henry Mundy, John Skinner Prout,<br />
William Pritchard Western, <strong>and</strong> Emily Stuart Bowring illustrate the<br />
developing roads, small townships, farm life, bridges <strong>and</strong> buildings<br />
in the 1830s <strong>and</strong> 1840s.<br />

Thematic tours led by <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Gallery</strong> Guides or Curatorial staff can be<br />
arranged for groups of seven or more. A minimum of two weeks<br />

Focus on Nature at <strong>QVMAG</strong> <strong>Museum</strong>, Inveresk<br />
At the <strong>QVMAG</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> we have three exciting new science activity programs on offer which are aimed to engage both kids <strong>and</strong> adults<br />
<strong>and</strong> explore a wide range of subjects in the natural world.<br />
Science Discovery Team<br />
H<strong>and</strong>s-on activities for children aged 5 to 13 years that provide<br />
an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of animals, plants <strong>and</strong> geology. Each session<br />
focuses on a different group: birds, mammals, plants, reptiles <strong>and</strong><br />
amphibians, insects <strong>and</strong> geology.<br />
Sessions run from 10am to 12 noon on the following Saturdays:<br />
23 March (reptiles <strong>and</strong> amphibians)<br />
4 May (mammals)<br />
1 June (geology)<br />
31 August (plants)<br />
26 October (birds)<br />
7 December (invertebrates)<br />
Sessions cost $3 per child. Accompanying adults free!*<br />
Bug Day Out!<br />
An insect club for children, teens, adults <strong>and</strong> seniors that<br />
focuses on the amazing diversity of bees, wasps, spiders, beetles<br />
<strong>and</strong> bugs. A range of activities <strong>and</strong> information sessions will be<br />
run by experts to cater for all ages.<br />
Sessions run from 1pm to 3pm on the following Sundays:<br />
3 March (ants, bees <strong>and</strong> wasps)<br />
14 April (spiders)<br />
22 September (butterflies <strong>and</strong> moths)<br />
24 November (beetles <strong>and</strong> bugs)<br />
Sessions cost $3 per person.*<br />
Shutterbug Club<br />
A photography club for kids aged 7 to 15 years. Each session<br />
includes h<strong>and</strong>s-on activities that focus on camera basics,<br />
l<strong>and</strong>scapes, portraits <strong>and</strong> wildlife photography.<br />
The four sessions run from 3.30pm to 5pm on the following<br />
Tuesdays: 5 March, 12 March, 19 March <strong>and</strong> 26 March.<br />
A display at the <strong>QVMAG</strong> will feature images taken during the<br />
course <strong>and</strong> be officially opened at a graduation event for<br />
course participants.<br />
The course fee is $35 <strong>and</strong> includes four sessions by a professional<br />
tutor, all materials, take-home activities <strong>and</strong> an exhibition of your<br />
work at the <strong>Museum</strong>. Participants need to bring their own camera.*<br />
