Dear Concordia Parent:
A Welcome from the President
Each year at Concordia we reflect upon a theme that is based on a particular Bible passage. This year’s theme, drawn from
Hebrews 10: 23-35, encourages us to:
“Hope. Love. Gather—In Christ”
When at our best, these words well describe the Concordia community. In Christ we have hope for now and forever. In Christ
we celebrate and share God’s love. In Christ we gather to worship, learn, study, work, play and pray.
Of course, we are not always at our best. All the more reason to place our hope in Christ! We look for and find help and
healing in Christ! What makes Concordia a Christian university is not that we are perfect people, but rather that we are
forgiven people who gather together in Christ!
My prayer is that your child will have a terrific year at CUW in every way. Should there ever be a difficulty or concern, I hope
that you find comfort and encouragement in knowing that your son or daughter (or both!) is at a place that offers hope and
expresses love as we gather together in Christ. If I, or any member of Concordia’s staff, can be of service to you, please do
not hesitate to allow us the privilege of providing assistance.
Blessings!
Rev. Patrick T. Ferry, Ph.D.
President
Campus Services
Academic Support
Advisors: Full time faculty members serve as academic advisors. Academic Advisors are familiar with the program
requirements for majors they advise and can help clarify University policies and procedures. Advisors can help students
explore educational and career opportunities, set appropriate goals, and help students decide on strategies for accomplishing
those goals. LA 105 instructors serve as faculty advisors to the students enrolled in their LA 105 section. The LA 105
instructor works closely with each student to assist him/her in making meaningful and realistic decisions relating to academic
program choices. Students in LA 105 should select an academic advisor in their chosen major by April of their first year on
campus.
Learning Resource Center: The Learning Resource Center offers supplemental instruction (study groups) and individual
tutoring. Students with learning disabilities should register with the Learning Center LD coordinator to facilitate
accommodations. These services are available to the student at no charge.
Writing Center: The Writing Center consultants work with students to improve their writing at any level of writing ability.
Students may make appointments as needed.
Athletics
VARSITY: Athletics play an integral part of a well-balanced educational program on the Concordia campus. A student athlete
is given an opportunity to excel in his/her sport on a varsity level. Concordia offers the following sports: Football, Women's
Cross Country, Men's Cross Country, Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Golf, Volleyball, Women's Tennis, Men's Tennis, Men's
Basketball, Women's Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Softball, Women's Track, Men's Track, Men’s Hockey, Women’s
Hockey, Men’s LaCrosse and Women’s LaCrosse.
INTRAMURALS: Each year the Director of Intramurals outlines the intramural activities. Competition and membership is
open to all graduate and undergraduate students.
Bookstore
Most used and new textbooks are in stock starting in August. They can either be bought in the bookstore or online for faster
service, and the Bookstore can buy back books at any day throughout the year. The Bookstore rents between 40-50% of their
textbooks, where students can save 50% or more on books. The Bookstore also carries many of the items and services that
students need including Concordia apparel, greeting cards, school supplies, and basic necessities.
Campus Housing
Concordia offers resident students several different options for rooms. This variety of choices meets the wide range of needs
and interests of our students. Residence halls include single rooms, doubles, triples, quads, and suites.
Campus Ministry
Worship alone does not make a full Christian life. Concordia students gather together to be involved in all aspects of Christian
living - devotions, Bible study, and other opportunities for Christian growth and care. The Campus Ministry Leadership Team,
with its advisor, the Campus Pastor, serves as the resource center for student involvement in Christ-centered living.
Campus Safety
The Campus Safety Office is comprised of the Director of Campus Safety, Assistant Campus Safety Officers, Parking Safety
Officers, and Student Safety Officers. Campus Safety is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Campus Safety is
available to help in case of an emergency, for a safety escort at any time of day or night, or to assist in any other type of need.
Campus Safety may be reached by dialing ext. 4344 from on campus or 262-243-4344 from off campus. You may also e-mail
us at campus.safety@cuw.edu
Counseling
The strength of a Christian community rests on the awareness that people need one another and look to one another for support
and understanding. Trained Christian counselors are available by appointment to serve students. The Counseling Center staff
is available to students interested in working on specific problems, prevention of problems, and to those interested in furthering
their personal development through a confidential relationship.
International Center
The International Office offers services and support for students who are not U.S. citizens. These include travel arrangements,
banking, transportation, academic and personal counseling, and social activities.
machines with a card swipe unit. resident and commuter students may purchase and use Falcon Points in the Siebert Dining
Hall, Falcon Nest and C-Store, and the BBC.
such tray meals for resident students using proper request forms.
specialties. It also provides meal plan exchange if desired.
The C-Store is part of the Falcon Nest and offers all the snacks and beverage needed for between meals of before grocery store
shopping trips.
Services are available to graduate and undergraduate students. The staff includes nurses and nurse practitioners. Hours are
posted for each semester. Health Services will be open 30 hours per week during the school year and 6 hours a week during
the summer. If a student needs emergency medical attention they can go to the emergency room at St. Mary’s Hospital (one
half mile from school) or call a local clinic. Please be aware of your insurance coverage when choosing a medical facility.
Parking
All students (full and part-time) bringing a vehicle to the campus must have their vehicle registered with the University. There
is no registration fee for parking. A sticker will be provided and must be affixed to the rear window for easy identification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What if my student wants to change majors or is unsure of a major?
A1: The student's advisor is able to do any scheduling and/or changing of majors with the student. Another option would be to
see the placement director.
Q2: How could my student learn what jobs are available to him/ her on or off campus?
A2: Have your student stop by the Career Services Office to learn what options are available.
Q3: What if my student is not doing well in class?
A3: Have your student talk to the instructor! If it is found that your student needs more help, he/she may stop by the learning
center for tutoring, attend Supplemental Instruction Sessions (if available), or just study with friends who are doing well in the
class.
Q4: If my student becomes ill, needs special medical attention or needs to be out of school for an extended period of time,
what should he/she do?
A4: The University operates an on-campus clinic, Monday - Friday (hours are established and posted each semester). For
emergencies outside clinic hours, St. Mary's Hospital is located one half mile from campus. For extended absences due to
medical problems, your student should contact his/her academic advisor and request that the academic advisor notify his/her
professors.
Q5: What if my student is homesick?
A5: Let your son/daughter know that it is o.k. to feel this way, but at the same time encourage them to get involved in
extracurricular activities, mingle with other residents on their floor, and participate in hall devotions. If you sense that the
homesickness is serious, tell them they may want to speak with one of the counselors on campus.
Q6: What if my student does not get along with his/her roommate?
A6: Let your student know that it is important to deal with this problem right away. Ask your son/daughter if they have
spoken with their roommate about the issue. If they have done this, and progress has not been made, then encourage them to
speak with their Resident Assistant.
Q7: Where can my student get a check cashed or use a bankcard machine?
A7: Several banks are located close to campus in and near the Mequon Pavilion (2 miles from campus). There is an
Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) located on campus near the Heidelberg lounge (Heidelberg Hall, lower floor).
Q8: What if my student has trouble paying his/her bill to the University?
A8: In order to attend class, a student must have paid the total bill by the first day of class each semester.
The University sends monthly statements to students who have an outstanding balance in their account.
The balance may be satisfied by
(1) Applying for financial aid
(2) Arranging a deferred payment with the Business Office
(3) Contracting with Tuition Management Services
If students still cannot meet their financial obligations, they must contact the Business Office as soon as possible and discuss
the situation with the Vice President of Business.
10

Q9: What information about my student may be disclosed to me?
A9: In 1974 Congress enacted legislation known as The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (commonly called the
Buckley Amendment). This act makes a college student custodian of his/her educational records. Therefore, the University
may not release this information to anyone without the permission of the student.
Q10: Is there health and accident insurance available for my student?
A10: Yes! An informational brochure on the plan is available in the Student Health Services Office (Rinker 113)
