Healthy Community<br />
Recognition Award<br />
The City of Greater Sudbury’s<br />
Healthy Community Cabinet<br />
recognized <strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
<strong>Board</strong> for its Go Green initiatives.<br />
<strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>School</strong>s received a Healthy<br />
Community Recognition Award on<br />
February 16, 2012.<br />
The award is presented to<br />
individuals or groups who have<br />
shown exemplary leadership<br />
and dedication toward building<br />
a healthy community in<br />
Greater Sudbury.<br />

<strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>School</strong>s receive<br />
Eco<strong>School</strong>s designation<br />
In 2011, Walden Public <strong>School</strong> and<br />
Lively <strong>District</strong> Secondary <strong>School</strong> were<br />
among the first in Northeastern Ontario<br />
to receive an Ontario Eco<strong>School</strong>s<br />
certification for their environmental<br />
efforts. In 2012, both schools achieved<br />
a higher level. Walden Public <strong>School</strong>,<br />
<strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong>’s<br />
second green school, was awarded<br />
a silver certification. Lively <strong>District</strong><br />
Secondary <strong>School</strong> was awarded<br />
a gold certification.<br />
Joan Mantle Music Trust<br />
Thanks to the generosity of the<br />
community, students continue<br />
to benefit from new instruments<br />
purchased through the Joan<br />
Mantle Music Trust. To date, close<br />
to $107,000 has been raised from<br />
individual donations, corporate<br />
contributions and special events.<br />
A significant supporter has been<br />
Newcap Radio, owners of Rewind<br />
103.9 FM and Hot 93.5 in Sudbury.<br />
Science and technology<br />
classes benefit from CIM<br />
Science and technology classes<br />
in <strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>School</strong>s shared a total<br />
of $6,960 generously donated by<br />
the Canadian Institute of Mining,<br />
Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM)<br />
to purchase equipment and<br />
material for mining related projects.<br />
<strong>School</strong>s that received funding<br />
include Algonquin Road Public<br />
<strong>School</strong>, Confederation Secondary<br />
<strong>School</strong>, Lasalle Secondary <strong>School</strong><br />
and Lockerby Composite <strong>School</strong>.<br />
Lasalle<br />
celebrates<br />
50 years<br />
Lasalle Secondary<br />
<strong>School</strong> celebrated<br />
its 50th anniversary<br />
from July 12 to<br />
14, 2012. The reunion<br />
was a tremendous<br />
success.<br />
Lo-Ellen Park Robotics<br />
Team impresses the world<br />
The Lo-Ellen Park Secondary <strong>School</strong><br />
Robotics Team travelled to St. Louis,<br />
Missouri to participate in the 2012<br />
FIRST Robotics Competition World<br />
Championships from April 25 to 28, 2012.<br />
Four hundred teams from around the<br />
world competed in four divisions.<br />
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary <strong>School</strong> finished<br />
within the top 10 per cent of teams.<br />
