Personal Trainer with Raintree Country Club
I did a quick search for the top 10 New Years Resolutions: (1) Spend more time with
friends and family; (2) Fit in Fitness; (3) Tame the Bulge; (4) Quit smoking; (5) Enjoy
life more; (6) Quit drinking; (7) Get out of debt; (8) Learn something new; (9) Help
others; and (10) Get organized. We should tackle #2 and #3 first!
Fit in Fitness: It’s easier said than done. We all have jobs, and families, and dinners to
make, and houses to clean. Where does exercise fall on your list of priorities? Make it a
TOP priority. Set a time and a day for exercise and STICK TO IT! Treat it like an important
meeting. If someone calls and wants to meet for dinner, tell them, “OK, but after I
work out.” Exercise is much more enjoyable when you do it with someone (#1/#2)
Tame the Bulge: Again this is easier said than done for many of us. But this isn’t rocket science. It’s more
complicated than simply calorie IN vs. calories OUT, but start off with that. Keep track of the calories you are
consuming, and keep track of the calories you are burning with exercise. In order to lose a pound per week (a
very realistic goal, by the way - 26 pounds in 6 months), you need a calorie deficit of about 3500 calories per
week. Again – THIS IS VERY DO-ABLE.
Let’s touch on a couple of the others: #1:Smoking - no brainer. Just do it. You’ve been talking about it for
years. See a hypnotist. Wear the patch. Do whatever it takes. Smoking is SO BAD for you.
#6: Drinking - well, ok, at least cut back. It’ll help with my other two.
#9: I love helping others. That’s why I became a Personal Trainer. Do something that is fun for you too!
Yoga is well known for its many benefits. In addition to stress reduction and physical conditioning, a regular yoga
practice promotes improved joint health, supports detoxification, and increases overall health and wellbeing. But yoga is
much more than a means to better the body, mind and spirit, yoga is also a terrific tool for enhancing sports performance.
1st Tuesday of the Month: “Slow Flow Yoga”
2nd Tuesday of the Month: “Power Yoga”
3rd Tuesday of the Month: “Long Slow Deep Yoga”
4th Tuesday of the Month: “Synergy Yoga”: SYNERGY is a fusion of traditional flowing yoga
postures, body weight exercises and classic athletic strength and conditioning drills designed to
produce results
Yoga is offered every Tuesday evening at 6pm $8 per class with prior reservation/$12 walk-in rate
Happy New Year! We hope you have enjoyed the holidays. Our leaf
removal program has been hectic with the windy days, most of leaves
have come down, and we are in the process of gathering and removing
them. Due to laws in Mecklenburg County, we are not allowed to burn
leaves, however we dispose of them by mulching with our deck mowers in
out of play areas. We know that frost delays can hinder your daily
schedule and we would like to inform you of the decision process of the starting times for the day.
During the cold mornings, there are several factors that play into the estimating the starting tee
times on frost delay days. First, sunlight is the quickest removal of frost on the greens. Second, how
quick the air temperature warms up also plays into the equation, and finally, soil temperature is an
issue as well. Judging a starting time is a balance of these uncontrollable factors. We contact the pro
shop regularly with updates and give them our best possible estimation of when it is safe to play.
Please understand that we are doing our best to limit the delay without compromise to the quality of
the golf courses.
All methods of electronic score posting (including online score posting) will be
unavailable beginning Saturday, December 1st, 2012 while we transition our
handicap service to GHIN. Members are requested to hold their scores until the
new GHIN system is active or record them on the score posting sheets in the Golf
Pro-Shop. Score posting resumes the week of January 7th, 2013. Please go to
carolinasgolf.org/ghin or talk to a Golf Professional 704-541-8880 if you have any
questions. Thank you for your patience and support.
